Hogan needed the belt going into the match so he could pass the belt to Rock who was in his prime.
Now looking back nobody cares about the finish or the fact HHH did a job to put the belt on Hogan after it.
The failed 2002 NWO without Savage angle was the end to the glory years for that company.
hogan didn't need to pass anything down to the rock, it was already his.
however if rock had been the champion and hogan challenged him for the belt... that match would have been seismic.
and no, hogan doesn't go over. i don't care how rabid the fans were. you could tease the babyface turn, you could go with the hulk up...but NO WAY does he go over.
how does hogan have the belt going into mania? who does he take it off of? how?
you want hogan to have a title match BEFORE he has one with the rock? why?
the beauty of the angle would be hogan coming back to claim what he believes is rightfully his, not some BS about rock tryna take the title from hogan. rock had absolutely nothing to prove in 02, hogan did.
Hogan got carried and had hip issues...no chance he was getting the belt in under a month with them thinking Cripple H had reached another level with fans...of course it became obvious that fans died down on Cripple H in less than two weeks after his return and him getting WHAT chants as the fans went nuts in Chicago for the Rock challenging Hogan in a match to settle "who the greatest of all time was"Trust me they should have put the belt on Hollywood going into the match as a heel.
Hogan turns face at the end of the Mania and hands the belt to Rock like he did with Warrior at WM6.
It would have made the finish mean so much more than it is remembered now.
We also should have got Austin vs Heel Savage that night but we got screwed on that aswell.
HHH should have been somewhere in the mid card where he belonged.
@R=G Do you agree?
I was thinking of this one as well. Everyone remembers this Mania more for Stone Cold/Bret than anything.Undertaker/Sid

Everybody remembers it..."How about you headline one more WM with...the Rock" with the faceoff. Pop was absurd.
Yea i guess Hogan was too old at that point but didn't HHH put the belt on Hogan after Mania anyway.
So what was the point of that or having Jerico beat the Rock here
They put the belt on Hogan because they thought there was money in the follow up to the Hogan reaction in Toronto....didn't pan out that way.
