A little off-topic since we're talking KG vs Dirk, but since they both now have a ring:

When KG took his team to the WCF by himself, that has to be one of the best seasons I've ever seen.

Sure Dirk went off in 2011 in the post season, but dude had a really good team around him.

KG's T-Wolves were straight up banged up going up against the Lakers and even Phil Jackson said if Sam Cassell were healthy that the Lakeshow would've lost. You could see him carry his team vs the Nuggets and Kings before that series. Man, 32/21 with 4 steals and 5 blocks in game 7 vs Sacramento :wow:. Dude was exhausted by the time they went up vs the Lakeshow who had a ton of momentum after beating San Antonio.

Definitely one of the best seasons I've seen from any front court player ever.

Dirk's beat better teams in 2011.... Prime Kobe Gasol, Bynum, LMA led Blazers, Durant/Westbrook that went to the finals the following year, and the Heatles >>>>>... Dirk's 2011 team was not great by any stretch of the imagination

Dirk a real one, hate it had to be him, but this nikka must be feeling like he ready to commit that right now. Cuh took one of, if not the biggest paycut in NBA history last year, and now he bout to end his career laying on his back, staring up at the lights.

And it's funny cause all we heard was Kobe should have been more like Dirk and taken an affordable contract to help his team win

Ironic thing is Dirk is ending his career on a old, broken down lottery team, while Kobe is at least on a team that will be young, exciting and probably more competitive, not to mention he's making as much this season as Dirk will make over the life of his 3 year deal

i've literally never heard an intelligent person suggest that players should take paycuts

They should ask Dirk if he wants to get traded to a contender. Houston would probably be the best fit off the top of the head

Meh, I don't think he cares. Duncan took the sacrifice and its allowed the Spurs to build a championship favorite around him. Maybe if the Mavs were as competent he'd be in a similar situation

Yeah no doubt Dallas beat the better opponents, not trying to deny that. But their team was much more ready at that time of the year than KG's. They were all completely healthy except for Caron.

KG's WCF run was plagued by injuries to the point where he had to do the mass majority both offensively and defensively. Dirk had Chandler, Kidd, Marion, Jason Terry, DeShawn Stevenson, Brendan Haywood, Barea, etc. to round out a deep bench. All dude had to do was put up points. But dude did it in dominant fashion, no doubt. However at the end of the day Dirk was able to get a ton more rest and still not do as much on defense.

KG had injured Sam Cassell, Wally Szczerbiak, Olowokandi, Trenton Hassell and Latrell Sprewell to rely on. Their bench spark was Troy Hudson yet dude took it to the Lakeshow after averaging about 44 minutes per game playing both full effort offense and defense through the whole post season.

Of course Dirk's run resulted in a championship, but we can't deny that his team was much more able to handle their match-ups than KG's was. KG had to do nearly all of it by himself, it was highly unlikely he was going to sustain that.

Duncan taking less didn't allow them to do that.. hitting on the Kawhi Leonard pick did

:childplease: kobe was 33 and playing on one leg. remember he started visiting germany after that season cause he couldn't play like himself.

prime kobe outscored the mavs by himself in 3 qtrs. 62-61.

The Spurs don't have LaMarcus Aldridge right now if Duncan doesn't settle for far less than his worth. He's saved them from a considerable amount of tax relief over the years (Went from 3rd highest paid in the lg to 4th highest on his own team in '13) and his contract allowed them to re-sign Tiago Splitter in '14 who was huge in their championship run. Ginobili taking less money to stay has helped them as well

But to that point, the Mavs haven't made a quality draft pick in a decade. If the Mavs were able to build a better team around Nowitzki, like Duncan has right now, that contract would look good on his part. But instead they're trading lotto picks + valuable role players for Rajon Rondo and getting stood up by second tier free agents. Dirk had the right mentality but his franchise hasn't exactly done their part. Not going to fault Kobe's mentality either. Can't knock a person for wanting to get paid what they're worth, but there's two sides to the coin and each have valid reasoning to their support.
