Lebron is cool with Ben (idk if he's cool with Donovan but Kobe is and he called Mitchell and told him to play like Wade), he signed to his agency, they work out with each other, they probably have a close relationship. So, Lebron called to give him encouragement because he probably cares about him and wants to see someone he's mentoring shine.

Do you think this has not happened before? I am sure there are players that have talked or texted right before they played each other in the playoffs.

The only thing I know of them is through their interactions now. Might be revisionist history but every time they talk about each other is all love and respect. I read somewhere that they communicated as well on the phone very often. So, I don't know of any beef/hatred.

All of the legends have said how they weren't fukkin with any of their non-teammate friends in the playoffs, especially for a potential matchup.
