Playing the results of team championships is the laziest basketball analysis that exists.
Judging players by finals statistics is misleading anyway, unless there is some big drop off over a large sample size.
Numbers will regress to the mean. Just like LeBron played great in the finals last season, because he's great and he was due. And just like Kobe has had some abnormally bad Finals by his standards. It's just one series.
We like to get caught up in isolated incidents and use that as evidence of our biases. It's not a conclusive measure of a player.
Use the big picture of regular and total postseason production to judge. The Finals is the most important time, in theory, but using a series at a time to judge a player opens your analysis up to getting misled by random occurrence, like Lebron playing bad in 2011. He wasn't lacking an intangible, he just played bad for week.
