Lebron couldn't keep #6 because that number is too associated with his time in Miami. And if he had chosen #32 the Cavs would have had to retire two numbers for him when his career is over.

Plenty of ways around this. Kobe changed his number too. I doubt LeBron will have a problem with two numbers being retired for him if that is their only solution.
