To still be this good after 15 seasons with this many minutes on his legs is unprecedented really. For some context for his peers at this age/season 15, here’s Kobe’s numbers for season 15 (2010-11). Not going to include Tim Duncan’s numbers because by 33, pop was managing his minutes, but his per minute numbers were basically the same across the board from his rookie year through 2014-15.

82 games, 34 minutes per game, averages of 25.3 points, 5.1 rebounds, 4.7 assists, 1.2 steals and 0.1 blocks per night while posting a .451/.323/.828 shooting slash.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in the season he turned 33 (1979-80)

80 games, 37 minutes per game, averages of 24.8 points, 10.8 rebounds, 4.5 assists, 1 steal, and 3.4 blocks per night while shooting 60% from the field and 76.5% at the line.

Shaq in the season he turned 33 (2004-05)

73 games, 34 minutes per game, averages of 22.9 points, 10.4 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 0.5 steals, 2.3 blocks while shooting 60% from the field and 47% at the line

Michael Jordan the season he turned 33 (1995-96)

82 games, 37.7 minutes per game, 30.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists, 2.2 steals, 0.5 blocks per game while posting a .495/.427/.834 shooting slash

To be posting better numbers than any of these is seasons is impressive enough (For further context, Kareem and Jordan won the MVP award those seasons and Shaq finished second), but what makes this so impressive is that none of these guys played close to as many minutes as him at this age. Kobe in his entire 20 year career including the playoffs played 57,278 minutes. Jordan played 14 seasons, during which he played 48,845 minutes between both runs in Chicago and his two years in Washington including the playoffs. Kareem played 66,297 minutes over his 20 years. Counting the playoffs, Shaq played 50,016 minutes in his 19 seasons. LeBron to this point has played 51,480 minutes including the playoffs just 30 games into his 15th season. To still hold up with so large a workload is remarkable.

to be fair to Kobe, they get a lot more rest/days off in between games today than even a couple years ago. stats nerds crunched the numbers and proved even one extra days rest affected a players numbers tremendously.

can't compare their stats vs players today. offense is so much more wide open :manny:

also, Bron is a stat whore. clear goal is to fill up the stat sheet. especially now that he knows he'll never get to 6 rings

I’ll say this. Lebron James is the greatest player of all time ( in my opinion)

BUT and there’s a huge But.

Lebron James is really benefiting from this new NBA style of play. Lebron James rebounding is a up because they ALLOW him to get those rebounds ( speaking on Love and Thompson) so he can push offense on the floor. Lebron James assist benefits because NBA teams have moved away from man on man defenses ( blame Tibs for this). It allows these Multi position players to thrive which has helped Lebron James.

Again, Lebron is the GOAT. But this format has been great for him.

you play in the era you're in....its not his fault he didnt play in the 80s or 90s....
