Fags in here crying people don't annoit someone the GOAT without rings now? :laff:

The GOAT is by definition the absolute best. Jordan or Gretzky didn't need them because it was clear they were pushing their game to a stratosphere never seen before. And guess what the rings followed. The ring chasing stat padding hoe is simply not good enough to be given GOAT status :laff:

Shohei is pretty much straddling this line right now. Baseball cacs probably won't ever annoit him because the game values career stats so much. But they'll probably still tell you he's the greatest talent to ever touch a baseball
Agree wholeheartedly except for the ohtani comment. I’ve seen a lot of talk about him being the goat even before the dodgers ring, and rightfully so lol

A lot of ppl were saying the same mike trout too

The issue is nobody wants to talk about the variables. The GM, the coach, the organization as a whole. They will shyt on a great player and say HE didn’t get it done. Same as if he wins it was HE who got it done. Then now it’s if you do play for a great team, that diminishes your greatness. There is literally no winning in NBA debates. The goal post gets moved so much the playing field looks like Swiss cheese. The reality is also the media has ALOT to do with why the conversations are so trash. You don’t EVER hear NFL media do like nba does. Nobody goes when Ja marr Chase has a bad game, “Jerry Rice would’ve never dropped that pass in that situation and that why can’t be considered one of the greats”. NBA media do the shyt all day everyday. ESPN were shytting on SGA cause JWill dropped 40….”Jordan would have never been outscored by the second option on his team”. This it what happens lol. Then the ring culture makes it WORSE. NFL media don’t do that. Most people have Barry Sanders as the GOAT running back! NOBODY knocks him below Emmitt due to rings. NBA debates are trash.

This is facts

Can’t have it both ways. Can’t bring up MJs finals record and 6 rings constantly, and then on the other hand say rings don’t matter for individuals

You kinda can. That's why Jordan is the GOAT. He knocked down every team in front of him. Even if you use the team concept there is nobody you can say "carried" him. Early exits he still had ridiculous statlines.

So people were calling MJ the best player ever after losing to the pistons over and over and over again?

I don't believe that at all
YES! Rings did NOT determine it.

You probably know better than me since you watched it live but that seems hard to believe.

Especially since I distinctly remember he saying the opposite on Last Dance.
The “criticisms” are overblown. We all knew he was the GOAT before he got a ring. He was viewed in the lens of it being a matter of time before any “criticism.”

People are fulla shyt. Rings werent needed to call someone the GOAT back then. These dudes in here werent around for it.

A month into his career, MJ was the only rookie mentioned on Kurtis Blow 1984 classic “Basketball.”

MJ was viewed different.

Ring culture centered around great dynastic TEAMS more than INDIVIDUALS.

It was a big deal when Pat Riley after 1987 said the Lakers would win back to back championships because no one did it in over 20+ seasons.

That’s what ring culture was about back then
