and it would work better in soccer because of how the pyramid is setup, where players are transferred for a fee and richer teams can buy so it's easier to recoup the costs of running an academy for kids starting at 6 years old or whatever.
If soccer did this sort of thing they really could swing a few NFL/NBA bound athletes into soccer. It could really work out well if they got the early jump on kids. Especially from rough areas. Brehs tryna get out the hood man.
it's harder with a closed franchise system and nowhere to transfer talent that's either not up to your standards or in great demand from "bigger" clubs.

G-League 1 is the varsity team. Top tier HSers and semi-pros and almost NBA players or former players.
G-League 2 is the JV team. High level HSers who want to skip college basketball and and semi pro guys. Give young refs and young coaches a chance.
The G-League 2 offers education with local community colleges. If you play in G-League 2, you can go back to college but only NAIA. For G-League 1 players, you get pay a lot more money if you are drafted. But if you aren't, it's not much at all.
G-League 2 get paid but very little but their room and board is paid for as well as their traveling. This is a coup for dudes on their last run. G-League 2 is very young in age due to the terribly low salary but the coaching is decent as is the management and refs.
Every team needs a G-League 1 and 2 team. Then as you go, you add academies and shyt.
Players can leave the academies to the G-League. But they have to enter the NBA draft after their season in the G-League. This is the way you can't have a city with more talent than others like Chicago rack up the youth talent and leave cities like Salt Lake in the shytter. The players are playing to make the G-League 1 squad.
They can go to the G-League or college.
If you go to college, you don't have to go to the G-League but you gotta stay in college for at least 2-3 years.
You can enter the NBA draft after one season in G-League 1.

Get them early so they can develop for the league.
However, they need world class tutors...make sure these kids can be self-sufficient whether they make it or not.

As long as people still root for laundry, as long as a competitive event is going on between two colleges, it'll never truly go away.
The NCAA is a wrap as we know it....they will either have to stipend players or have top talented recruits ALL going overseas or entering a G League type of scenario...much like what Lavar Ball was talking about starting some months back. Actually BBB has taken no losses, cuz having his kids hooping in Europe getting paid while developing seems ahead of the curve just a couple months later

You guys are grossly overestimating how much people would care for what is essentially low level professional basketball. G League attendance MIGHT increase for the well known high schoolers (not many household names like Zion or Lamelo out there) but people aren't going to be clamoring to watch this shyt on TV when they can watch the NBA instead. And I've been to a G League game, saw that lightskinned cat who used to backup Tony Parker back in the day... Cory Joseph puttin in work in the minor leagues.
Seriously, how many people watch minor league baseball? The players would get paid and that would be dope tho.
That's why the NBA marketing has to be perfect on it. I think it can be done. Maybe even make it so that after 2 years you can still goto college and be eligible
