Kobe shoots 27% in the regular season and 25% in the playoffs with the game on the line, and he missed 9 of his last 10 in the playoffs. He's not good in the clutch for several reasons. For one, he is predictable. He's going to run clock most possessions and he refuses to pass (once had a 3-4 year stretch of 56 shots taken in the clutch while getting just 1 assist). This means the defense doesn't even worry about the other players on the court. They might as well be Joel Anthony since Kobe isn't going to pass to them anyway. Then he tries to either drive what usually feels like to his lest or cross over his man. It usually doesn't work and he shoots or pump fakes. This then draws other defenders in and he then tries to shoot through a double team. He's 39 of 166 I think in the regular season and 7-28 in the playoffs. When games get tight, he stagnates the offense and stops moving the ball while taking awful shots. Since he turned pro, no team has a larger drop off in their offensive production in regards to per game once crunch time arrives and it's for all those reasons mentioned. Basically their top player turns into Dion Waiters in the clutch.
