Lena Dunham is praised as mega star by the media, but "Girls" weak TV ratings prove otherwise

the final season of How to Make It in America drew a weak 0.54 average rating, however Girls is doing the same thing right now in 2015. It has 4 episodes left this season and is currently pulling 0.59, yet like @FlyRy mentioned HBO already locked it in for season 5

Eastbound & Down is another example. it had better ratings than Girls did in each of the two years they were on together yet HBO was quick to cancel Eastbound.

I'm pretty sure McBride and Jody Hill were the ones that ended Eastbound, HBO had to talk them into doing a season 4.

And HTMIIA never got the critical acclaim that Girls gets.

still think they shouldn't have cancelled How To Make It, but Girls is a much better quality show. bunch of "it's still real to me damnit" people in here. quality has nothing to do with lik(e)ability.

I'm with everyone here. I don't see how they barely let How To Make It and Hello Ladies live while Girls and Looking are still on the air.

It's like HBO hates male-centric comedies not named Entourage. We'll see how Ballers does though, Rock's in it so it should do some numbers.

Strong story, compelling characters, great acting, relate-able even though its fantasy, brutal as fukk, lots of gratuitous nudity, dragons. Anyone can die, shyt always getting real. Game of thrones takes everything you think you know about the genre and flips the script.
Did I mention the villains? In tv and movies, the good guy always prevails. In game of thrones, not so much. Game of thrones is just next-level tv.

When Girls debuted it had all of the TV critics and opinion piece people in the media talking about how "true to life" it was and saying how "they know/used to be people like on the show". So HBO saw they had a media darling in the show despite the fact that its ratings would were worse than a mid-day talk show on MSNBC.
Why it is still being renewed 3 years after its buzz has pretty much died completely is a mystery to me though.

to be fair, from the limited amount of times i've seen it, it seems like a pretty cheap show to make.

and it gets high critical marks, why would they cancel it? it's the type of show that allows them to spend 4 billion dollars on a single scene of game of thrones

No I haven't played wow, just shocked a show with that subject matter seems to be one of the most popular shows on TV, on some stream sites I go on, they have a chart and GoT show is easily the most watched even though its not airing new episodes at the moment AFAIK, even more views than TWD.


Just surprising that such a "nerdy" show is so popular, IIRC, neither of the two Star Trek shows on during the late 90s was as popular, nor was Zena or Hercules, so shocked the thread on here about GoT does numbers, seems like the type of show posters on here would be embarrassed to admit they watch IRL, cause of the subject matter.
