Not really. ASAP Rocky is the new Snoop. Snoop's rhymes were borderline filler. They just sounded amazing. Snoop is a better writer than Rocky, for sure. But y'all overrate rhyme content.
Not everyone has to be Nas.
Whatever angle you decide to be as a rapper, be the best at it. Rocky decided he wanted to be the new Snoop. He's pretty damn good at it.
Your boy Kendrick wants to be the new Andre 3000/Nas/GOAT level intellect rapper. And he's terrible at it. Big difference.
My dude, that's a HUGE thing. Beats, flows and charisma make up 90% of what makes a great hip hop track. If you nail those components and are doing mindblowing shyt in those departments, you've already made near-classics.
And don't get it twisted - I don't ride for anyone. I'm too old for that. I'm as objective as they come. I know where Rocky's music falls short. I also know what he does fantastically well.
Stans never think about their favorite rapper's flaws. So no, I'm not 'riding' for the nikka.

Rocky is not a general public rapper. AT ALL. He's making hardcore experimental hip hop in a time when you have to be as soft and generic as baby powder. There's no way in hell he can single-handedly fight that tide.
And I hate bringing sales into the discussion, but Rocky's one and only album went gold. That's coming from a cat that NO ONE knew prior till late 2011. No prior weak ass mixtapes to build a fanbase. No cosigns. No Dre, no Jay-Z, no Wayne to say, "yo, check out this artist." He just dropped one incredible mixtape and it went nuclear. When was the last time that happened in hip hop?
Rocky has done some incredible shyt. and that's without the monster push that Kendrick gets from Interscope.
I hated that song. I was really looking forward to hearing some Clams Casino shyt on radio. Then that bullshyt dropped. Which proves exactly what I said: the modern hip hop climate is a Drake climate. Aint no general public cat trying to hear weird hardcore shyt.
