• Has an aesthetically pleasing playing style

Guys like Iverson, Kobe, Kyrie, Jimmy Butler and now Ant are all talented but highly overrated relative to their actual placing in history due to these exact factors.

The league is trying very hard to push Ant because they’re looking for their next American face and he checks all the right boxes, but if you’re really watching the games dude disappears constantly. Despite that he largely dodges criticism because he’s already developed that reputation for himself that casuals love.

What's funny is... Ant hasn't even been cuddled/babied this year. He been gettin shat on for various reasons all season. Jacking too many 3s, comments about back-in-the-day players lacking skill, not wanting to be "the face of the league", baby-momma issues, all while the Wolves were mediocre/an afterthought for much of the season.

There's really no young star that's immune to criticism. Even Wemby got shat on for not "winning enough games" with the Spurs last season and shooting too many 3s this year.

My only issue ever with Tatum is the amount of 3s and level of difficulty of so many of his shots.


That said, we are a quarter century into the zone. Its about time we moved away from the 90s mano y mano analysis and acknowledge that high quality, athletic team defense can hinder a solitary great player. nikkas cant just clear out and take their man one on one all game. If they gonna shoot damn near 25% from 3 around him he is gonna have trouble. The Thunder be flying around...looking like they got extra dudes on the court.

The hate JT gets is rooted in more than hoops.

When JB has a pedestrian season next year despite being lauded as the franchise and having no Tatum around to impede him as an individual talent, you'll think Mary Shaw was posted up in here. Dead silent.

Basketball is entertainment. People find Tatum boring. Whether its his game or his personality, its just not interesting to most basketball fans even if we can all acknowledge he’s a great player. Ant is entertaining. Again whether its his game, his personality or both, people find him captivating. The only real issue is how Celtics fans act all offended about people not finding him that interesting. And he’s a great player but he’s not quite as good as the absolute best guys so there’s not even the begrudging respect a guy like Duncan got when no matter how boring you found him, he kept winning chips.
