The huge negative side to it, it it made hip hop fans "fat and lazy" because they got too accustomed of getting free music.

DJ Kayslay and DJ Clue? are both in the top 15 of most influential and important people in hip-hop from 93-08. And I'm including mcs, a&rs, producers, writers and managers like Chris lightly and them, etc

We used to travel all over NYC to get Clue tapes.

Dude had versions of songs that didn't even make the albums. So you didn't want to miss any of his tapes. He had songs off The Infamous that were the damn demo versions, and had us hitting every mixtape table in Harlem to find his sh*t, lol. Golden era.

Lotta money was made back then. nikkas would be lined up on payday at the “dvd” man’s car. 3 movies for 15, 5 for 20 on the music.

1) Dj Centric Mixtape - The Dj Clue/Doo Wop/Kid Capri/Kay Slay Style was an actual mixtapes with the hot songs of the moment, new joints, demos, exclusives, and hot mc of the minute dropping a free style.

2) MC Centric Mixtape - Then you had Dj Drama and Lil Wayne - essentially put out an album's worth of material, ALL by or at least featuring Lil Wayne. Off the top of my head, G Unit was big into this. I think Busta did a few as well.

So in 1995, cats meant Doo Wop type tape.
In 2005, cats meant Don Cannon type tape.

And this whole thing transforms when you start talking about Houston.....
