Life Is Good
Untitled
His Bonafide classics in my opinion, all four of these albums brought a new dynamic at a time when Hip Hop needed someone who was lyrically gifted to bring something of substance to the time period. In 94 it was Nas raising the bar and taking Rakim's and G.Rap's influence and transcending it to new heights. In 2001 it was Nas reclaiming the essence of The boom Bap sound, supreme lyricism, along with a passion for the craft and a ferocity to remain relevant amongst the emerging commercialization and watering down of the culture. In 2008 it was Nas making a powerful, articulate, and relevant statement on the racial viewpoints of African American identity and culture. Here in 2012 it was Nas crafting one of the most personal, honest, and lyrically invigorating albums that an only an elder statesmen could.
It Was Written
Gods Son
Distant Relatives
Debatable classics. What many would consider 4.5 albums. IWW especially has aged phenomenally, that album was Nas at his lyrical peak, he was probably the deadliest pure MC in hip hop at this point in his career.
I Am
Hip Hop Is Dead
Streets Disciple
Above average to great albums. Take away 1-2 mediocre tracks and add 1-2 unreleased tracks from the era and you have an almost classic album. I Am suffers from a WEAK middle portion so much so that you CANNOT, even as a Nas Stan argue that it's anywhere near "classic". I'm the biggest Nas Stan there is and I couldn't in good conscience call I Am anything other than a strong 4 mic effort, probably Nas's most diverse album musically (aside from LIG)
Nastradamus
His weakest effort. Unfocused, messy, bloated, and ultimately beneath his standards. Still had some strong songs, but it was his darkest point musically. 3.5
