If we are honest with ourselves there isn't a group, label, album, single or controversy that is really exciting anymore. sure it temporarily creates an issue to discuss, debate and a side to pick....but it doesn't last. it's stale and it will likely be in a state of decay very soon if something or someone doesn't truly up the ante. i'm not talking about another contrived and forced publicity stunt that is becoming more and more see thru these days. i'm talking about a real team or movement that smashes through the industry on some other type shyt. i'm praying for a new reign from someone or something that i've never even heard from before. i don't know how or when it's going to happen but i just hope it comes soon.

it's like anything else. Don't pay attention to the hype machine and dew what you dew. A HUGE problem with all of this stuff is we're constantly told what to like and shyt feels boring when we dont like it.

It's a total 180 (not a 360. I HATE when nikkas say that) from the Golden Era of the 90s and aughts, when we were told to like a lot of shyt that was actually GOOD.

yes but the internet has b*stardized recommendations and co-signs, whereas back in the golden era they were legitimate and genuine. on a larger scale i'm not even talking about whether the music comes from the underground or the mainstream hype machine. to me it's really all starting to look the same. the only difference is visibility. obviously if you go further underground you'll find slightly more passion and a better skillset but they still wanna get on and blow up like the next nikka. i have no problem with that, it's just if they do get on and once most do, they cycle through the same system and end up playing out a similar archetype that's been seen before. i don't know if i even should expect anything new under the sun anymore. i just wish someone would find another angle to captivate people's attention.

Better to reign in Hell than serve in Heaven
I don't know what the thread starter is on that you all keep bringing up NY..... but he's right

albums just come and go now.. it's 1 damn week later.. is anyone still banging Eminem or talking about it in great lengths

Where did Drake disappear to?

And these are the highest selling albums in rap this year.. they just come (ooooooooooh shyt it's gonna be this, that, and the third)... and go (you STILL listen to that drake)

It's like every album or video gets hyped up.. then everyone gets it a week earlier or that week... first week numbers come in... and then on to the next video, mixtape, album

I do think that Jay-Z album had the longest staying power. and that was mainly cause half the world had it illegally one week... then legally a day later.. then it was dropped everywhere for the rest of the world the next week... and even then, a month later nobody cared

Kayne was supposed to change the game... he was saving hip hop... 2 weeks.. nobody cares

The internet has watered down the commodity of music. Nowadays you have to make your music a event. And even still due to the fact that the record industry has taken a hit financially due to filesharing. There is not even enough funds to sponsor that.

Tha peak of hip hop when it came to tha full package (Classic Records, Million dollar videos, movements, lifestyle) was in the late 90s to early 2000s.

Now we are in the "indie rock" stage of hip hop. And I dont think we are ever going back. Im personally fine with it. But I can understand how someone who grew up on shyt like Wu-tang, Pac, Big, DMX, Dipset can be a lil disheartened by the state of the game now.

Lemme ask you this... How old are you?

Because I realize the older I get the least I'm impressed by dumb sh1t that I used to be obsessed over...I'm sure the average 19 year old is excited about hip hop in 2013...

if you're still looking for "beef" to excite you then you need to grow up. i'd rather get excited about great music being put out by artists like Tech N9ne, Danny Brown, Roc Marc, Brother Ali, Rittz, Alchemist producing full albums with various artists, Run The Jewels, TDE, Deniro Farrar, the list goes on. beef is stupid and pointless now because it's all done over twitter and it's over the dumbest shyt.
