Baltimore

1. Murder rate is going down

2. Gentrification is taking over parts of Baltimore

3. The population has increased for the first time in 60 years

4. Public transit is going to get better with the red-line being set for construction.

5. Job growth in the area that has absolutely NOTHING to do with DC. Job growth is increasing at a higher percentage than DC.

6. Downtown population has increases by 130% since 2000 and that number continues to this very day with more construction in the works.

7. Once dilapidated neighborhoods are being revitalized.. ( greenmount, Broadway, Edmondson village for example) I have pics for proof of this that I've taken myself.

8. Baltimore is becoming much more diverse.

Speed cameras, pot holes, some dirty/unkempt areas, lots of un-paved roads. You see the occasional rat up and about, the occasional used condom in the street, cracks in the sidewalk, etc. No lie, I once saw a fat pigeon stuffed head-first in a side walk crack (not sure if it was rat that pulled it in or some little :demonic: kid that stuffed it in) .

Ever since D.C. got a face-lift Bmore has been looking kind of :flabbynsick: in comparison. Back in the 90's the two cities looked about equal.

DC has the advantage of being the nation's capital though. Politicians couldn't have those Euro diplomats/tourists coming through like :merchant:

I'm optimistic about the direction of Baltimore, but I don't know if that's just because I love this city :damn:

the speed cams are on hiatus though http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/opinion/editorial/bs-ed-speed-cameras-20130417,0,430106.story

Baltimore, or any other city for that matter, doesn't have the whole country paying for its facelift like DC does.

Those places that OP posted about are straight, I've had some good times there.

When I was going to Johns Hopkins for my dad's chemo treatments, there's about a 3 block radius around the hospital that is straight. Anything outside of that and it's akin to 3rd world w/ the burned out buildings, vacancies, etc. Rather

I agree with what yall are saying. A couple of years ago I spent an hour driving around D.C. and I was just shocked over how different it looked from when I was kid. Beautiful green trees, paved streets and white folk everywhere. In the 90's I remember standing on my Uncle's back balcony at night watching hundreds of rats running around the back yard. It just looks so different.

p.s. I'll feel better about the cameras, when or if they take em down.

Its not as bad as advertised, but it aint nowhere near good....I cant wait to move away...Baltimore night life, is underwhelming for a major city.

Baltimore just needs to start planning development like DC did. Anacostia was :trash: last time I was there, but it's been on the come up since they built the Nationals stadium and started calling it "Capitol Riverfront."

Baltimore's development is kinda weird and sporadic. There are a few times when it's done well (Harbor East and around Hopkins), but the rest of the time it doesn't seem to follow any logic. Examples are Camden Crossing, what looks like some suburban enclave, in Pigtown (which they want to call Washington Village now :mjpls:) and trying to made the North Ave border of Bolton Hill gated.

Pigtown should be developed since it's so close to the stadium and 95, but there's a way to do it without changing the character of the neighborhood. :yeshrug:
