My Top 5 has kinda always been KRS, Cube, G Rap, BIG & Scarface. Jay would probably be 6 or 7.

Then I got Kane, Chuck D, LL, a lot of people don't, but I have Q-Tip in my Top 10. That cat has too many classic verses. Redman and Rakim. That's kinda my Top 12 or whatever. I can't have Jay in my first five, because his records didn't really have any impact on my love for Hip Hop.

I rate it by whose records changed shyt for me. I dig his music a lot, but I was well into lovin' the culture by the time I started fukkin' with his catalogue.

One thing is for sure, his peak was extremely high as an MC, you can count on one hand those whose peaks were better. Some of his verses on RD were :mindblown:
For me, the last time he was truly at that level was probably on the dynasty intro, you can tell he was a lyrical geek in his early days.

jay's peak is not near top 5 all-time.

his peak is not top 5 in any category.

this is actually one of the things that hurts him. hes like a finesse boxer. very few knockouts.

reasonable doubt was his only knockout album, but it didn't get the credit it deserved from the mainstream, so new jack fans tend to disrespect it.

2Pac and Jay-Z are the only two acceptable answers for the GOAT. I personally have Jay-Z and Prodigy as my favourite 2 with Pac #3 but nonetheless

I disagree. His flow, wordplay, delivery and song writing ability was immaculate. I can only think of Rakim, Nas, G rap (and maybe big,Rae and Kane) that were better, either way he hovers around that top 5 for me.

Yup, hence why I said "maybe" with Big, Kane, Rae. Unlike say Rakim, I wouldn't say the difference in their peaks was considerable, or even noticeable, IMO of course.

Nobody's touching Pac and Jay imo.

2pac is number one for me. His music is timeless and doesn't sound like it was recorded with a dusty ass Fisher Price mic like these other 90s dudes.

I have nothing but respect for Jay because he's been doin his thing since 96. The dude has stayed hot for several years. He's on his shyt. 2nd to Tupac is 100% subjective and I respect that.

But I respectfully disagree.
