Yea I think ignoring is the best bet. You know what basically if people are ignored but the user makes repeated attempts to evoke something out of the posters(doing all the things I said above over and over) then they should get a stern warning.

Merging threads is never the best option unless two threads have similar content . If threads are trash the community will generally either A. Ignore them or B. Spam them to death. I think the Coliseum is the best place to look at on how you should moderate a forum section. Up there Repeated threads and false rumors are immediately thrown in the bushes anything else goes(outside of off-forum topic bs).Trolling is apart of this forum and always will be, and should be allowed as long as its ontopic trolling.

I would argue that a lot of these threads END up with the same content. The first page is discussion about a new rumor and then it's 19 pages of the same Sony vs MS shyt. However, I agree that if it's genuinely trash, it will just die.

I have tried to be relatively reasonable, and I've only merged threads (IMHO) that:

- like Liquid mentioned, had no new information, basically "my opinion on why [the other side] sucks deserves its own thread" threads
- fake info (like when there were 5 threads based off info from the guy who trolled the news sites a week or so ago)
- old info (like someone inciting a flame war off of a now-irrelevant article from a year plus ago)

I was coming from the viewpoint of trying to keep garbage threads from bumping legitimate threads off the first page, but if I'm overstepping my bounds, I have no problem with dialing it down out of respect.

I'm, for most intents and purposes, an Xbox guy...but I've let the PS4 threads stay open because the OPs contained links with pertinent info. I'm a console war veteran, so I can never really pretend to be "above" it all...I just don't want flame wars to upend legitimate gaming/film/TV/entertainment discussion.

Rekka asked the thread with the Edge article to be merged, because it turned into a flame war, but I asked him to use the Ignore feature and to scroll past the trollbait. The OP had an article that was released just days ago that was a big feature on PS4, and it did contain a lot of new information and insight...just like Loose and fatboi's threads on PS4 and when they will most likely announce it, etc.

Nearly all of the threads I have merged belong to one certain attention whore. Everything else has been pretty obvious stuff to moderate (i.e., spoiler tagging, two threads on the same show, "mod please delete" threads, stuff like that).

I'm a poster first, mod second. I don't want to be seen as powerhungry or unfair. I'm absolutely open to suggestions.

although i think merging is not optimum, sometimes the console war shyt gets so out of hand i dont even want to participate in the thread cause its so much of the same shyt over and over. i mean even in some of them wii-u threads they would turn into Sony vs MS threads. the shyts just ridiculous.

im not saying action should be taken, and i prefer to ignore folks, but all it takes it two people arguing the same tired old points to completely derail a thread. i say, if the OP has a link to an article or source, dont merge, but if there is no link and the thread has turned into an old MS vs Sony thread, merge it with the others.

I think they are, i feel were at the a 50/50 point with the info coming out, half of it is bullshyt, half will end up being legit, as the time for the announcement comes closer we will get more legit info is going to get released, thats why i think we need new threads on them, and not let them get lost in mega threads

Why would I stop people from making mattress or disney jokes? Do you think they're innapropriate? If so, why? You knew what you were doing when you made those posts. I've always maintained that they were attention-grabbing posts/threads and that you didn't actually buy a used mattress from craigslist. So if that's the case, and you were looking for attention, why would you have disdain for that attention now? If it extends to your personal life (people calling your house with mattress comments) then I totally understand but if it's just people making fun of something you said, why would I do anything about it?

imo @Kodie @MightyHealthy @Liquid should keep in mind there are just as many people who could care less about TV show threads, phone threads, PC GAMING threads etc :wot:

considering how it was when PS3 and 360 dropped this should be expected this time of year

as we spoke about in private there will be a solution soon. id say in terms of this forum the new fix will solve most of the issues anyways
