from an earlier thread:

i'm a yoga teacher and i work for a personal training company in that capacity in addition to teaching at a full-time yoga studio and also at a gym.

i'm also certified by a YogaAlliance-affiliated yoga studio and credited with 200+ hours of training as a Registered Yoga Teacher which means i can use the initials RYT after my name in addition to being CPR/First Aid certified and also insured for liability.

i teach about 4-5 classes a week. if anyone has any questions please let me know.

im thinking about trying a yoga class at my gym to help with flexibility and posture. whats standard protocol or things i need to know for someone new in his first class? :leostare:

show up about 15 minutes early. wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing. all your breathing will be done through your nose so clear it out if you are congested. bring a bottle of water and a towel just in case. that's all you need.

the most important rule in my classes is "listen to your body before you listen to me". intensity is good, pain is not. if you feel any sort of discomfort or pain stop what you're doing immediately and notify your instructor.

also yoga and marijuana mix well, don't know what OP is talking about. :steviej:

don't have on a lot of cologne
don't eat a super heavy meal or you will fart lol
have an open mind about what you think your body can/will do
leave judgment and competitiveness with self and/or others at the door
stay towards the back of the class
bring water
ASK THE INSTRUCTOR FOR HELP IF NEEDED!

i find that im able to get deeper into my poses when im smacked and i'm also "more focused" on really taking time to mentally assess my body...the lines of it...where i could push further or where i should relax

Yoga is a much more inclusive philosophy than the asanas. If you really want to achieve a state of relaxation and serenity then practice meditation.
