its not a straw man argument. If I want to play Halo or Quantum Theory I can't on a PS4. That's why I buy an Xbox One. Some of my favorite games of all time were PS2 games. It was the weakest console of it's generation (excluding the Dreamcast which was abandoned).
I'm not saying buying an Xbox for it's exclusive games is invalid, heck I'm planning on copping an XB1 later this year when Halo w/e drops. The argument you were making was that the hardware deficit was neglible and saying it doesn't matter when the fact that it's been such a hot topic online says otherwise.
The whole console power argument is garbage. If you care about power when it comes to video games there's really only one choice on the market that will give you real raw power. Nobody on a console is gonna be playing Watch Dogs at 1080p 60 FPS. Both consoles will be playing at some inferior to full HD resolution upscaled to that.
Just because someone cares about power doesn't mean they have to get a gaming PC as it's been detailed frequently as to why some folks don't want to. I know folks that simply don't want to game on PC for irrational reasons such as convenience, space issues and ignorance. You may not think like that but there are folks that are really like that.
In June the PS4 is $399 and the Xbox One is $399. As a gamer you take a look at the upcoming libraries and the one that has more games you want you buy. Maybe you look at the extra features of the system like XBO's media functionality but power is mostly a moot point.
What games that particular person wants to play mostly boils downs to multiplats if we have to keep it real. Nowadays most games are multiplatform and the exclusive titles are icing on the cake. For a person like me, exclusives are the cake itself since I have the option to play a game on PC if it's console performance bothers me. A game like Transistor which comes out in a few days plays in 1080p/60fps on PS4 and it's coming out on PC too but I also factored in things like remote play on my PS4 to the Vita, not owning many digital psn games on PS4 at the moment and it's clear what I'd buy that game on. If I had a Xbox One right now and that game was also coming out on it but would be rendered in 900p, it'd be kind of dumb to buy it on there unless I just wanted something to play on it.
I elected to buy Madden 25 on the XBO owning both consoles and I couldn't tell you what I was missing graphically not buying it on the PS4. Haven't lost an ounce of sleep over it either.
Madden or EA games right now aren't really games worth using as a barometer for power differences.
Something like Metal Gear Solid:Ground Zeroes, Tomb Raider, Call of Duty, Trials Fusion, where the game is either running at 720p or 30fps @ 1080p on the XB1 and it's a big difference.
