I think we are at the tipping point where it's time to seriously consider evaluating where to emigrate beyond America. The why has already been discussed at length. Now I am trying to narrow down the when and where. I was reflecting yesterday and I've reached the point of no return - I am 99% confident I will not be here 10 years from now - And hopefully less than that.
If you are still sleeping and a member of the Matrix watch the first minute of this video:
Nothing has changed in 4 years in this country. Nearly all of the jobs created are BS part-time jobs in Fast Food and shyt.
Now I have to figure out one difficult aspect which is where to focus my time and energy on research, professional networking and language studies for expatriation.
Hope this post helps other brehs think of their own exit plan as I work through mine. For many reasons my destination is East Asia because a) That's where the most economic growth will be for the next 25-50 years b) My Woman's family is from Japan and I'd like to be close to there for familial and business reasons as well.
So far I've been kicking around the following countries through passive research I've done in no particular order:
Now there is opportunity to do business across borders, but the question becomes - Where should home base be? I don't know if any of you read Nomad Capitalist but I've been reading and watching/listening to a lot of Andrew's stuff and there doesn't seem to be a cold hard consensus between SG and HK in particular.
Hong Kong it's incredibly easy to setup an S-corp with a virtual office and pay almost no HK taxes as long as business is mostly conducted outside of the country. SG is a bit more rigorous. Now as far as Investor visas go both HK and SG will be very competitive, and we're probably better off trying to get a specialist visa to get in at first because there are not many qualified pros in my field over there in either country.
I am thinking perhaps I can try coming in on the specialist worker visa to SG which is usually a 5 year stint at the most. Then usually afterwards or during your stay you can try your hand at getting permanent residency. It is a points system, similar to any other country importing skilled workers. I am wondering if it will be easier to get permanent residency in Australia as a workaround which may grant more favorable terms since it's under the UK network in terms of international treaties as SG is a former colony and grants favorable terms to UK/CA/AU citizens. However, the problem with Australia is that the tax system is very close to America and the cost of living is high. It would be easy for me to get a work visa in Australia but I don't want to be stuck there for too long as it's not my ultimate destination.
There are a couple of different considerations, and I have a phone interview in a sec so I don't have time to wrap it up now. But I will follow-up later in the day with additional details if anyone is interested.
