Thread was originally about why Jimmy Butler, while literally one game away from leading MIA to the most improbable Finals run in years, wasn’t getting criticism for not being a dominant scorer … which was absurd on its face considering

1) he actually WAS being criticized for it in real time by the NBA Daily Hot Take Media Complex

2) he successfully willed the team to its first post-Heatles finals berth…where he was outmatched against a Lakers team with two top 5 players, saw Bam and Dragic get injured, and took the champs to 6 games while averaging 26 10 and 8 …a “first option/max player” Finals MVP caliber performance had they not been outgunned and actually won

what’s happening now, a year later…doesn’t make the actual original premise of the thread make more sense

I like Jimmy, so I want to see him bounce back. He NEEDS to put up at least 25 the next game. He missed enough games this year, so fatigue should not be an issue.

What's happening now with normal playoff conditions proves "the original premise" to be true even more, given all the stars that aligned for Jimmy and the Heat in the Bubble environment. Any other superstar barely cracking double digits on low volume would be dragged up and down this board, yet somehow he escapes criticism that his peers would be facing.

Eerily similar to what's happening with AD right now.

Jimmy escaped criticism because there has never been a high expectation of him. Sport Media rarely bring his name up on live tv, and the Heat has been under the radar since start of the season. Only popular players get harsh criticism.

He hasn't shot over 25% from 3 either of the last two years despite shooting 35% on higher volume in the previous 5 years, and he takes fewer midrange shots too.
