Smarks back then were different, only liked technical shyt, less cutscenes, etc. Now smarks are mainstream and tend to like a lot of that attitude era shyt, but can smell shyt and let it be known (Reigns, Batista, etc). Smarks back then would've ruined it because they would be calling for Dan Severn or some shyt to be champ, but I feel like current day smarks would be cool with the attitude era, not all of them, I mean theres always gonna be a vocal group who doesn't like the product no matter what but nah, mostly we would be cool with it.

@Da_Eggman captures my thoughts on this.

Let me piggy-back by saying that that smart performers and writers can keep up with their audience. Fans don't want to be contrarians.

By nature we will hate the heels if they defecate on us. The problem with the Russo heels that have dominated our psyches is that they don't want to be booed.

Real heels will figure out how to get off. For example, go to Seattle and shout out Patsies...or, go to Cleveland and shout out San Antonio...or Miami.

Fans are fanatics. We will quickly catch feelings.

Not really ecw thrived on strictly smark crowds in the 90s

ROH crowds made many classic matches that much more special

If the product is good the smart fan is gonna be happy and not shyt all over a match

HHH - foley match was prolly filled with smart marks being at msg it was just an awesome match there was nothing to shyt on

Classic example would be royal rumble 2003 Scott sterner and Hunter had one of the worst matches ever the crowd completely shyt all over it and the entire ppv could of been ruined

Right after Kurt angle and Benoit won the crowd back with a classic match and the fans gave it a standing ovation

I actually agree with the Da King on something. :dwillhuh:

But seriously those smark crowds can get out of control at times.

I think with how much better the product was back then there wouldn't be a need for smark chants or crowds trying to find ways to entertain themselves.

1st, i wish TSC would ban "mark" and "smark" cause some of you mofos just OD on the shyt and not even recognizing which one you are.

2nd, those crowds along with that generations was much more violatile than the "smark crowds" of today. Every week there were "a$$hole" chants, nowadays you NEVER hear anything of the such.

Y'all missing a small point

Crowds back then were smarks too, its just that with the internet being a "smark" has gone "mainstream" so to speak ... most of the crowd chanting "this is awesome" aren't necessarily smarks, it just became the thing to do

There are smark crowds because fans chose guys over Cena like Bryan and Punk and they told you they weren't good enough and kept pushing Cena. So this line of questioning doesn't even add up because fans actually paid to see the top guys of the Attitude Era and wanted to see the rest of the act(Tag division, IC division, females, angles, the interactive storylines). They cheered for the great heels though...that's not about them being smarks. That's just them getting behind what was entertaining. Angle was GOOD back in 2000 and $hit but they booed his out of the arena in every match with Rock and Jericho and Austin...lol.

the reality is the internet ruined kayfabe and wrestling. Smarks were always around, but they never infiltrated the mainstream audience like they do now

I've probably seen that match more than any other in my life, and there were actually boring chants near the start, which King tried to cover by saying 'listen to these fans chanting Foley. Someone tell these idiots he's Cactus Jack"

Then the weapons came out and they started to :gladbron:

@Da King fails to mention WWE playing a huge role in all of this.

Ever since they sucked off the RAW after Mania crowd in NJ it's been getting :francis:

Had the commentators loving it,then Cena came back out after the show and gave the crowd praise...ever since then crowds have been trying to top them.:bryan:
