"The Great Debaters" or starts making interesting documentaries like spike lee, michael moore etc, will black people flood the theaters to go see these movies and smash box office records?

if the movie is actually GOOD I'm sure people will go and see it.

his movies are currently terrible and he still packs theaters so good movies shouldn't hurt.

depending on how good the movie is, his name alone could make something like that happen. it would probably work at least once just off the strength of him trying something different.

How well did that alex cross movie do? He was involved in that.

But would it be more successful than any of his Madea movies?

No they won't and you make a good point. So what do we do about this gross disparity? We start educating in the community at a very young age the importance of those films and the positive, DIVERSE black experience. Its not that we don't need films that depict harsh black experience like Menace II Society, etc., but there needs to be a genuine balance of what our community gets in cinema. If you look at it from the local level, its gonna take a concerted effort from all members of the community to educate the youth and condition progress into their knowledge...its not easy and some will not want to participate, but the more we do, the more ideas about media perceptions could change. On a macro level, we have to learn how movie funding works and teach that to the adults. Those with business savvy and connections can be approached about funding certain projects, but of course, some will reject the idea. Hell, even massive kickstarter campaigns could be useful. I'm spitballing suggestions because we need to get to some solutions here

He caters to a niche audience though, mostly the church going type.

But i personally like Daddy Little Girls, Why Did I get Married and Temptation
