What really happened is Flores had the defense looking better than what people thought and he was coaching them to some wins, so all of a sudden it went from a "rebuild" to a "we need to make the playoffs" and folks took it out on Tua who had his work cut out for him with the lack of talent on that offense and old ass offensive coaching.
Pretty much. Tua was tasked with bigger expectations, earlier than scheduled.

:mjlol:

Ive never seen a QB get crowned so quickly and the other QB in the draft be left for dead so quickly. This is ridiculous. What would Herbert be doing in Miami with the OLine struggles the team has had? What would Miami’s current record be? What would Miami’s record be last year? Media slobbers this guy, but denigrates anything Tua does. Even in a win.

Umm burrow and a few other QBs were taken.

Last season basically doesn't count, as Tua wasn't healthy at all and got thrown in before he was physically and mentally ready to play. Making matters worse, he had an offensive coordinator in Chan Gailey whose offense was tailor-made for Fitz, who he had coached previously.

As a Fins fan, the jury is still out on Tua. He has this season to prove he's either the guy or if he struggles, we go a different direction and possibly pursue Watson. It's frustrating because with even an average o-line, I think we win 12-13 games. Chris Grier has done a terrible job in rebuilding that line, it's been a bottom 5 unit since 2017. We spent picks on Austin Jackson, Robert Hunt, Dieter, Kindley, and Eichenberg in the last few drafts and the only guy that looks to be a long term starter is Hunt. While the o-line sucks, Tua doesn't do himself any favors by trying to do too much and bailing from the pocket when his first read isn't open- which often leads to him making poor decisions instead of just throwing the ball away.

With all that being said, if our WR group stays healthy, I think he has a good year. Particularly with this scheme that is supposed to compliment the things he does well.
Tua looks sweet on the RPO’s. That seems to be an aspect of the offense that compliments his skillset, that we didn’t see under Chan Gailey. Then again, this is a healthier Tua.

Tua got benched for Fitz, Dolphins have been connected heavy to Watson (sounds like they even made an official offer) and he wasnt named a team captain this season (which is super odd for a non rookie starting QB)

his own team is why people are looking at Tua funny, shift your blame to the Dolphins for how they have handled him - why would someone who follows the Dolphins passively think super highly of him with all those happenings?

reserving judgement, theres just something about his game that doesnt sit well with me

its his escapability/feet. hes not a natural athlete and struggles to evade pressure. if he was on a loaded team he could succeed, im not sure how far he brings a very mediocre group

The offense looked way better when Fitz was in, and it would probably look way better with Herbert. Tua is a top 5 pick and in 2021 these dudes are supposed to flash greatness. He hasn’t shown anything that suggests he’d be any better than like the 11th or 12th best QB in the league even at his height.

Maybe I could be wrong in the future, but right now I’m not

He's played 10 games :skip:
And he has had flashes of making incredible plays and throws in his 10 games.

I meant so far this year after week 1. Ppl are killing Tua for his week 1 performance, as if the Dolphins OLine wasn’t getting son’d. Eichenberg was being treated like a little boy by the Pats.

Because theres a Grand Canyon sized gap between them as talents and if you can’t see that i know what to tell you.

Tua is a just meh.

RPO's and the quick passing game are definitely his strengths because he can make one read and is good at getting the ball out quickly on those, and he's extremely accurate as far as ball placement.

The issue lies when you rush 3 or 4 and sit back in dime defense and make Tua go through his progressions quickly. With an average o-line, 3 or 4 pass rushers means the QB has more time to scan the field, but the Fins o-line is so ass that teams can play dime defense often because the Fins can't run the ball and the defense can still get pressure just rushing 4 without having to blitz.

One of my best friends trained Tua all off-season. He's most definitely healthier and his hip is essentially as close to normal as it'll get, so there's no more injury excuses. His arm strength is mediocre at best, so his ceiling from what i've seen so far is probably Derek Carr or Tannehill, funny enough. Which is someone you can win with, but the supporting cast needs to be ideal, which is obviously not something the Fins have.

He's not very talented physically. That's ultimately his problem

He might be a great leader, but he's average size, not fast, and has a weak to normal arm with a wonky throwing motion

That's fine for an average QB but when you're a top 5 pick with the hype he had coming out of college, it's gonna lead to ppl being unimpressed with your game

Herbert has all the positive traits of the greats. He gets rid of the ball quickly like Brady on the Pats. Ball placement skills of Aaron Rodgers. Athleticism of Andrew Luck.
He’s played how many games as a stater? Plenty of players have had good rookie seasons.

OP aint seen miami offensive line i see. Without Tua dolphins would have scored 0 against New England. If they aint throw slants or hitches Tua gettin killed. Not to mention the lack of separation from the wide outs. Joker had hours behind that NE line steppin up checking down and shyt it's laughable

The thing that made Tua look bad was that Fitzpatrick would come off the bench and do that Tua was supposed to be doing all game

i read that the OC basically ran two different offences. One for fits, one for tua. And yes a 15 year vet who already knows an offence intimately will look better than an injured rookie.

people need some perspective. Evaluate the kid fairly.
