i have no idea what wrc+ is.. but there's no way utley is even close to cano even with cano being in a triple a lineup this year.

extending a 34 year old 2b is just not a good idea.. and utley hasn't been healthy since 09. plus no dh spot to hide him in..

but that entire infield is old as fukk. maybe that's what they're going with

Utley provides value. If this extension is 3 years 60 million then I would agree it is a bad move but the extension will probably 3 years and around 30 million. Utley will not play in 150 games a season but if he only plays in 100-120 games he will still provide value to the ball club.

Utley has not been completely healthy since 2009 yet look at the results.

2010 = 5.1 WAR
2011 = 3.8 WAR
2012 = 3.1 WAR
2013 so far = 3.2 WAR

One WAR is valued at about 5 million $ so you do the math.

if the phillies keep him because of business decisions.. or how much he means to the club.. then whatever. i'm a yankee fan.. i get it.

but strictly production wise.. there's no reason to keep a 34 year old 2b in obvious decline who can't stay on the field.. especially on a team that's not going to contend until it gets younger.

For comparison Cano's is 140 and Pedroia's is 117

Cano and Pedoria are both younger by atleast 4 years.
Plus most importantly they havent missed anywhere as much time as utely has

He has horrible knees and his range is pretty bad now ... but as far as hitting, he's been pretty productive when he's in the lineup. I think he's slugging the highest he has in about 4 or 5 years.

But there's no guarantee he's even playing 100 games let alone 162.

Cano and Peoria both averaged well over 100 games and rarely had significant injuries.

And you have to take into factor for about 80 games you have to have a replacement player who will probably not be as good as Utley
