Here is how I argue the N64 with people, its basically the same philosophy I try to apply when it comes to console debates.

The N64 had what I would call 20 undeniable classics, but more than likely gamers are not going to thoroughly enjoy all 20 of them...it's probably in the neighborhood of 10. I can name 12 N64 games that are undeniably classic and one I enjoyed:

Mario 64
Goldeneye
Perfect Dark
Paper Mario
2 Banjo Games
WCW/nWo Revenge
DK 64
Diddy Kong Racing (enjoyed this more than Mario Kart TBH)

There are other games that can squeeze into the personal classics category and that is obviously dependent on the player. IMO, WCW/nWo Revenge is an undeniable classic, but the gamers and critics generally feel that WWF No Mercy was better. Personal connection has a lot to do with it.

Ironically, I think it's Nintendo's strongest console since 1996...it just started that downward slope in where EA and the other 3rd parties didn't really pay much attention to them. This was mostly due to their idiotic decision to go with cartridges which almost negated the hardware advantage that Nintendo had with the N64 over the Saturn and PSOne.

IMO, There is no way the N64 is a top 5 console...hell it's hardly a top 10 console tbh.
Majors mask
Wave runner
Kobe court side
Ken griffey baseball
Conker bad fur day
Snowboard kids
Mario tennis
1080 snowboarding
Turok 2
Super smash bros

There wasn't a lot. But it had more quality.

In 1990 the NES was still going strong for me even when i got my Genesis. I occasionally hooked both those systems up in the final years of the 90s when I didn't feel like messing with my playstation.

Never had the desire to have a n64 then and I still don't.
