NBA Roster Builder
^This website has a nice roster building tool with the CBA guidelines in place, proper player data, etc.. Let's try and keep this realistic with our signings, you can make anyone sign for dirt cheap, give some logic. I don't think we can put them over the top, but we can get them closer.
I have assumed Paul George is traded for Kevin Love and picks, feel free to make this assumptions as well. It's picking up steam.
Here is the rotation I've built:
C: Tristan Thompson, Andrew Bogut, Nene
PF: Channing Frye, Mareesse Speights, Luc Mbah a Moute
SF: LeBron James, Gerald Green, Kyle Korver
SG: Paul George, JR Smith, Iman Shumpert
PG: Kyrie Irving, Brandon Jennings, Deron Williams
Centers explained: I think Cleveland has to gamble a bit to beat Golden State and they need some more rim protection. They need to bank on Bogut being healthy and being the great defender, rebounder, and passer he's always been out of the 5 spot. Given his health concerns, age, and the fact that he clearly wants to win rings he'll resign for a minimum salary. Nene only made 400k over the minimum last year anyway, turning 35 in September I think he takes a minimum salary to be on a real contender and make the Finals. He's a great finisher and solid defender who will be great in PnRs with Lebron, PG13, and Kyrie.
I don't need to explain Triston Thompson.
Power Forwards explained: I have no clue why Channing Frye didn't play in the Finals... He's no star obviously, but he's a pretty good player. He averaged 17.4ppg per 36 on 41%3PT shooting this season, and averaged 20.6ppg per 36 on 52/51/86 shooting in the playoffs this year. He's had the second best BPM in the playoffs of anyone on the team for the last two seasons. He's been great for them in every playoff series spacing the floor and being an efficient offensive player. Mareesse Speights has been a big time offensive player for awhile now off the bench, a career 19ppg and 10rpg per 36 currently playing for basically the minimum. He'll sign with the Cavs for a minimum contract, he wants more rings and would probably love playing against his old team in Golden State. Mbah a Moute is a hell of a defender still who played for little-to-no money this year, he's basically he opposite of Speights capable of playing either forward spot.
Small Forwards Explained: Gerald Green can still put up a good amount of points. He can shoot and he's springy as hell, will be good on the fast break with LeBron. He played for the minimum in Boston, he'll play for the minimum in Cleveland. Korver is obviously a ring chaser now, he's 36 and will stay with the Cavs for the minimum. His shooting could be key for them.
Shooting Guards Explained: People often forget that PG13's original position was SG. He became a SF due to the Danny Granger injury and stuck there. What he brings to the table is obvious. Moving JR to the bench will be a big boost for the Cavs, and I think he's at his best off the bench anyway. Shumpert is already on the team, he can flex between wing spots and take on point guards with his defense.
Point Guards Explained: Kyrie is Kyrie. Brandon Jennings is another guy who can just get buckets off the bench who played for minimum money in Washington, and DWill is a veteran playmaker.
The Cavs biggest weakness was their bench. With Jennings, Green, JR, Speights, etc. off the bench they all the sudden go from having 0 bench scoring to a ton of firepower. These guys can all put up points like crazy. I threw this together pretty quickly, but here it is.
I don't know how to work the MLE with this tool, so it could still be used.
