Be is definitely a classic album to me. Easily one of his stronger releases.

I think his best album is still Resurrection. He was at his best lyrically back then. And the production was perfect! Common from '94-'98 or so, was on top of his game. Dude went bar for bar with Black Thought on Illadelph Halflife with ease in '96. I don't think he could've done that on the same level after that. He was still crazy with it on the third album. That one and Be might be neck and neck.

I'll say it...."Love is" was good...until I heard Jay Electronica's "Renaissance Man" and now I can't even listen to Common on the OG anymore...

This might as well be Jay Elect's song now...

I still remember getting it right after school the day it came out. I played BE everyday for like a month

I thought it was a well known classic. I'm surprised people are saying it's not to be honest!

I thought this was dope as hell when it dropped and still do. No fillers, perfect amount of tracks, lyricism, and great production all the way through.

I've always felt that One Day is Common's best album, I can't believe it wasn't mentioned in this thread.

Be may not be his GOAT record (though this thread seems to disagree) but it may be his most important... because after Universal Mind Control it was widely assumed Common's career was finished. Be was beautifully produced, well crafted, didn't waste space or tracks, and probably extended his relevancy for a decade.

His choices of producers... goddamn. It was maybe the last full-on hiphop album that Kanye produced. Plus Dilla and No ID. :lawd:

Common has never had another track like "Hungry" though...

Still tho.... that "the food" performance

Album is very good, on the fence if it's classic but quite possibly. Resurrection had some amazing work though...

I mentioned One Day, a couple other cats did too.

That, in my opinion, was just as good, if not better than Be. It's really close to me.

But I'm rollin' with Resurrection all day. Com' and No ID had something special with that one there.
