:what: Multiplication and division have the same priority so they are just evaluated from left to right

The mnemonic should really be PEMA

The answer is 9.

yo, the answer is 1.

you're not dumb, you're just uneducated on how to properly to do this question. what you do is follow the rules, and the rules are pemdas, and if you get that you get 1

i'm a math grad student so i hope you can take my word for this.

This. One should still get 1 irrespective of whether one was taught BODMAS, PEMDAs or PEDMAS.

I got 9, as an engineering major I think I'm pretty seasoned at math.

Bertrand Laurence agrees with me

Pretty sure its one. Even though the two isnt in the brackets...because it is attached to the brackets I'm pretty sure you have to do it first. Or at least thats how I remember it. On top of that...multiplication and division have equal priority. It is really more like BE(D or M)(A or S) then BEDMAS.

6/2(1+2) or 6÷2(1+2) equals ? The explanation! - YouTube

In my opinion, Bertrand Laurence is wrong and the math man major is right. The rule is clear, one must give the parenthesis priority if one is following the order. That means individual operations must be completed before another is carried out. So the brackets and the digit(s) attached to them must be operated on before any other.

:snoop: May God bless those kids' souls.

Actually since graduating from high school was based upon whether they passed tests like these in my state, I helped two repeat takers pass and go on to graduate. :ld:

They had the most trouble with problems like these.
