Going 43-39 and quitting in game 7 after blowing a 3-1 lead (only 8 teams in NBA history have done that) is not worthy of the leagues most valuable player award. Wade and Nowitzki make strong arguments in 2006 and Shaq makes a great argument along with Duncan in 2005 but kobe did not deserve it that year. LeBron and Chris Paul in 2008 both made convincing arguments for the award too for that matter.

It's a regular season award?

There is simply no precedent for a guy getting MVP when his value is entirely on the offensive side and he averages only 15 ppg. Yes, I know he contributed a lot with his assists and floor generalship. But other guys who did that still had to score a lot more to get MVPs.

For example, Magic Johnson got MVPs during the 3 seasons with his highest ppg output: 23.9, 22.5, 22.3. (And lets not forget that Magic, although no defensive stopper, was not nearly the liability on defense that Nash was. Also, Magic was a big-time rebounder from the backcourt.) Magic did not win MVP when he scored in the high teens (and even then, he never scored as little as 15 ppg).

John Stockon never won an MVP, and neither did Jason Kidd (both were far superior on the defensive end than Nash as well). Isiah Thomas never won an MVP, but got the most consideration during his highest scoring seasons. Chris Paul got the most consideration during his highest scoring seasons.
There wasnt much precedent for Steve Nash's career, not that it matters. He was competing against guys in that season. Isiah Thomas, Stockton, Paul, etc did their best work in other seasons. Whatever they did in those seasons is irrelevant to the 2005 and 2006 voting. Nash might not have won if he had the same season in a different year.

This is the problem with a lot of people's arguments regarding MVPs. "The guy I stan put up 30-5-5 in 2002 and didn't win, how the fukk did the guy I hate win in 2015 when he only had 28-5-5 and a worse team record??". The answer is simple, he did it in 2015 instead of 2002. What it takes to win depends on the level of competition.

Lol at nash being one of the most impactful offensive players of all time

The same nash that no one considered a superstar until he llayed for a coach who made jeremy lin a household name and made kendall marshall almost lead the league in assists per game

The same nash who left the mavs and they immediately got better, even though they got no return for him?

Nash's performance didn't stack up well against the guys he was competing with in those seasons either.

Shaq was more deserving of the MVP in 2005, and I'd argue Duncan was as well. Duncan missed like 15 games during the season, but he was clearly a better, more valuable player that year, as we saw in the playoffs.

In 2006, Kobe clearly deserved the award over Nash. He put up 35 ppg and dragged a talent deprived Lakers team, which started Kwame Brown and Smush Parker, to 45 wins. LeBron was also clearly much more deserving than Nash.

No disrespect to the op intended but the people (diehards and some pros even) who are obsessed with this need to let it go. Nash is hof, so is Shaq, so is Kobe. His 2 MVPs doesn't take away from those 2 one bit and he would still be in the hall without them. If anybody should be salty, it's Stockton, who was better than Nash for a good 10 seasons or more and then has to look up and see this dude gettin mvps.

Kobe stans all of a sudden trying to prop up pringles like they haven't been saying nash made him and he wasn't shyt since 2012 :russ: :umad:
The best part is that these idiots SAW HOW shytTY PRINGLES IS FIRST HAND for years when he coached the Lakers. Those years in LA, that was some good shyt, huh? Oh Kendall Marshall got a lot of assists, I guess he ran the team just like Nash's Suns, right? Best offense in history, career years for the whole roster, winning a ton of games every year, thats what D'antoni set up in LA, right? Ah but Marshall got assists though so it was basically the same as what Nash did. They lobbied constantly and from the very beginning about how awful Antoni was. Now he gets credit for the system that never once worked without the point guard that WAS the system.

Still they try to push this plug and play nonsense. Still they ignore the flaws in their illogical arguments as they're repeated time and time again.

Kobe stans have no sense in their brains.

Dumbest stans OAT :wow:

"Nash was nothing without D'Antoni!!!!111" That's why he lead all time offenses before D'Antoni and after D'Antoni, that's why the Suns went from 29 to 62 wins once Nash got there, and everything you pointed out about D'Antoni being so shytty coaching the Lakers and them seeing first hand.
