Daniel Bryan filled up arenas, sparked more conversation about pro wrestling since the Rock returned, and had the highest ratings every week with your CM Punks, HHHs, Ortons, Cenas all on the same show with him but this place got so silly and ridiculous and Wrestlingforum-like, that they ran with the narrative that he was a deficient instead of someone who carried and instilled security for the business. Some Stacy Dash type $hit. Dudes ANGRY that the guy who walked out before him couldn't do that so they ran with the mistakes McMahon made in not getting his TV deal done the right way and the WWE stockholders running for their lives when he couldn't live up to his word. Once again...just like with Bret Hart, McMahon was absolved and it was someone else's fault. They pick and choose when they want this old man to be "Out of Touch"...because they don't have an argument to defend the failures of LESSER talent.

Vince has said numerous times they would have been in even worse shape if HBK wasn't there at that time.
:skip: Of course he would say that. He was his BFF. It still doesn't change the numbers during his time at the top.

Vince will say that but not give any credit to any WCW idea at the time. Ever. Believes he willed people to chant ECW. Vince McMahon is a very off brand man who anyone can tell doesn't have people say "No" to him all too much.
What does that have to do with what he said?

Or his greatness as a wrestler.

OP should have said whether he meant attendance or TV ratings. When you see the champion wrestle every week, of course people aren't going to tune in to TV because they know they can see the champ wrestle whenever they want to. I have that mentality, so I would assume others do too.

Lesnar was the last champion they booked correctly, and it's moreso because of his contract obligations.

I disagree with this, CM Punk's 400+ day reign had me wanting to tune in every week to see what he would do.

Same with HBK, & Christian in TNA

I agree they shouldn't be wrestlng every week tho.

If you're the only source of legit starpower at the time, you take some part of the responsibility (i.e. Shawn Michaels being the top guy when Bret wasn't there and the only other guys fighting for the title were people like British Bulldog, Vader, Psycho Sid, Diesel, etc).

However in the post WCW/ECW eras, it doesn't apply as easily.

:mindblown:
So a lack of top guys and mid carders is HBK's fault lol. On top of going against the hottest angle in wrestling history. Kayfabe was still alive and well people legit thought WWF was invading WCW and you had Hogan turn heel for the first time in forever.:mindblown:

And the two month window from when HBK won the title until Hall's debut, numbers were up with HBK at the top. Something tells me of it were anyone but HBK you would be copping pleas

Mostly it's the company's fault. I know when Punk was champ, they booked him as second fiddle to Cena. People like to point out that when Daniel Bryan was champ, the company lost a lot of money. There were other factors in that such as Wrestlemania being on WWE Network for $9.99 so they lost PPV revenue and the E lost money just launching the network. I wouldn't put all the blame on whoever the company chose to be the top guy, especially when there are other factors in play other than the company backed the wrong horse.

Back in the day yeah but nowadays not really. Its all about the WWE brand in general being the draw.
What does it draw though? Network numbers should be 3 million by now, eh? What are those official tallies? All we see these days are justifications for pushes and people getting buried for being born in different countries(by Vince in the Stone Cold podcast on Cesaro).

NO ONE except this BOARD has ever blamed Bryan for any losing money or anything..that's a bunch of bull$hit. Had any of you children ever looked around outside this place, you would know that without blinking and entertaining the posts by such lesser posters brings you down to that quality as well. Daniel Bryan, the biggest star in pro wrestling of the last 3 years, a detriment? What kind of fukkING SENSE could that EVER make? Lol. Utter insanity.
