De La is too much of an "acquired taste" when compared to Tribe.

Tribe shyt is just easy to listen to and vibe with.

Tribe and De La are 2 of my all time favorite groups. De La is definitely a acquired taste but I prefer their catalog over tribe's. tribe didn't put out anything great after 93 and stakes is high and the grind date are both great albums. De La was more consistent. I do think low end theory and midnight marauders are both better than any de la albums although de la soul is dead is close to those. Both of their music has aged very well except for maybe their first albums

Cool thread

1nce Again might be my favorite song of all time, perfect blend of mid nineties boom bap and nineties r&b ...dilla‘s best beat imho

1nce Again, The Jam and Word Play were my favorite joints on BRL

I was listening to this Q-Tip song where he was reminiscing

Jungle Brothers, De La, they gave me little light
In Top, Three Feet, Buddy, that was aiiight
One year later, the Tribe was initiated
Bonita came it was wild how she dominated
Can I Kick It parled us to our next phase
So drunk in those days I truly was amazed
How I got up enough to make tunes people cheered me
It was foreign then came Low End Theory
People quickly reconized who we are
Phife is ill and Busta is a superstar
Tours with P.E, Naughty, and the Geto Boys
Arsenio Hall, women then were evil toys
Whisperin' hate inside my brother's virgin ears
Tryin to hurt but, yo we stood amongst the tears
Midnight was even tighter, now look at us
Condoms is on the rida stored on the bus
It got funky right here, I had to save my life
In the snow after the show, I had a fight wit' Phife
Moves to a land to get away but back home
Job was urkin' us, it sent me through a danger zone
The good thing, I found Allah in the process
An angel appeared wit' sneaky ways and gave me stress
Now what am I to do?
My album's platinum but I'm still feelin' blue, c'mon

Im the only one i know who puts Beats above Low End and People's.

Beats is so underrated to me, the production is almost flawless to me.

The Love Movement wasn't better than Beats Rhymes & Life

too many heads hated on the latter for not having "the tribe sound", or "not being Midnight Marauders or Low End Theory" and Consequence getting shine. Whole album was fire IMO, I can play the whole thing through without skipping :yeshrug:

I will never get the heads that thought that album and De La's Stakes is High were not good releases.

:win:

Same here, that was Tip at his best to me, production wise.

Yea Tip, Ali, and Dilla smashed the production on that album. Only thing that keeps it from classic status was the presence of that clown Consequence on damn near every track and the fact that Phife was sick and or lazy on mic

Naw bruh... Dilla brought some mundane shyt into the mix with that BRL album, and it continued with the Love Movement. I mean, they rapped on it so it ain't all his fault, but yeah... their most boring and bland music definitely came out post-Dilla. Not that he didn't do some winners too- I actually think "1nce Again" shoulda been much more of a hit than it was. But when I heard them albums... :scusthov: Somethin' wasn't right... and Tip had just come off producing some of his best stuff like the joints he did on the Mobb album, so I can't say it was all on him.

As for Common... he's definitely done better work with both Kanye AND No I.D. than he did with Dilla.

Dilla had beats, but let's not act like homie's Tribe shyt was A-game work.

Get a hold is still as good or better singularly as any tribe record ever made.
Plus it is tip's best solo submissions nd eclispses Mr icognito, as a strictly solo tip moment.
The problem that hurt tribe was tip and ghostwriting but no one will say it.
Tip started faking jax, that it held true to tip.
ushering in the visual degrading era of black women.
Disguised as artistic tna and he was faking jax at any and every turn, in the sales spike era.

nikkaz blaming dilla like consequence was ever nice and then act and absolve tip from employing cons.
When it was glaringly obvious.
Why nikkaz won't diss tip and damn near all of native tongues except pos, Dave, maseo is beyond me.
Part of the reason the culture was so weak is.
The main nikka supposed to be protecting it was faking jax.

To the point, tip selling out.
Gave license to all his stans on some toy shyt that sprung up in 1993, when tribe went mainstream and nikkaz front like tribe never was on sellout shyt but they were.
Mm is the gateway sellout native tongues album.
That on some sneak shyt, the toys and fans grasped on to as some seal of fake approval but I was never fooled.
Especially when the drawing envelope for let, was so long.
That I know those new fans did not even have scenario or even a remix existed.
Then, deflected onto and erroneously,...
Blaming dilla who really actually kept it real and had to pick up slack because of the disaster to tip's collection of records.
The same type of loss that plagued why the Wu did not continue drawing in the manner they were at that point as well.
Except at least the Wu kept it way more cultural and real than tip did.

nikkaz be giving tip all types of passes and now he blatantly does shyt that would never be accepted from him.
[like okay we know busta will go anywhere regardless of admin. Yet this is tip, tho. So, it makes no sense and we can't give passes. When, this shyt is obvious]
If, tip was judged accurately and nikkaz did not have a sellout pass constructed for that nikka.
Tip was a scourge, breh.
