Tribe was dope before the sample game (hassles of clearances & lawsuits) changed, Tips record collection being destroyed and Phife & Tip becoming beefed out ruined the sound.

Their FIRST 3 album are all "arguable" classics. Not many can say that. They were bound to peak out.

absolutely. The Ummah killed tribe. They went from one of the best sounds ever to making boring elevator music.

I'll catch shyt for it but imo Dilla ruined De La Soul, Common, Tribe, the Roots, etc... and then guys like Pete Rock ended up changing their sound (that's on him.. not Dilla). Even though the artists loved the sound the fans never really like it (as you can see in the reviews, sales, and the albums just not being liked as much)

all of those groups made better music before they started working with him. He really make their sounds very boring. His solo work was fine. And the groups he put out like slum village was okay.

Steaks Is High was bad??..no its not there best abum but that album bangs

i can understand you not liking them switching up there signature sound but i dont think it was downgrade at all

This track alone shyts on all of Midnight Marauders IMO. And I like Midnight Marauders... Both high quality albums.

that joint is the main reason qtip is in my top 5. people sleep on his old school flow but this dude has incredible lyrics

^sample clearance had nothing to do with it. The rules were all in place by the time of the 2nd and 3rd albums. They weren't De La or Public Enemy layering ten samples per song. Tribe was always pretty simple with a main sample and drums. That didn't have much to do with it.

The production just became boring. IMO of course.

I'm on the fence. I think that sample shyt hit Tip hard. He wasnt using a straight loops like he used to. Primo around that time started to chop up samples, not to get caught. Pete Rock too. They got creative with it. I think it stifled Tip to a agree - it KILLED Prince Paul. lol

It was boring. lol Their music didnt come across as lighthearted anymore. To me Dilla had the best tracks on Beats Rhymes & The Love Movement.

its not a knock on Dilla, its just the truth. B,R and L is one of the most bland sounding albums i cant think of.
