For the brehs in that Corporate life, lets share some tips/strategies/experience with climbing that Corporate Ladder. To be extra clear, I'm not talking about no tap dancing shyt
I'm sure everyone knows that 1 (probably more) brother that be on some other shyt that be making you wanna slap the c00n out his ass.
Let's get this out the way first. You are going to have to be on some extraordinary shyt to compete with the non black people/minorities who are just "average" so the first piece of advice I would give is to be excellent at your job. Outperforming and having more knowledge than your peers will help you a lot. And let's be reality, if we are deep in the corporate world already as a black man (or brehette) then we are probably smart as fukk as is.
Relationships, Relationships, Relationships. It's not even about smiling in these mothafukkas face everyday. It's more about knowing the right (important) people, and making sure the right people know who you are. I will walk straight up to someone that I know is a big wig and ask them who they are and what they do. Trust me this shyt works, people will be more than accommodating to talk about themselves, no matter how high ranking in the company. They might fukk around and ask around about you. Regardless, you might get on their radar. I interrupted these two old white the other week at lunch and I was joking that I needed to get on their floor, and they put me up on game about a job shadow program. I got a card and everything. You think I give a fukk about interrupting their lunch
You gotta make these dudes uncomfortable sometimes.
I can't stress this enough, attire is very important. Besides wanting to look good and professional for YOURSELF, people make all kind of judgments, positive or negative, strictly off of attire alone. You don't need to go all GQ, but don't come to the office looking sloppy, wrinkled, or looking like you plain just don't give a fukk. If your dress code is Business Casual, then you should dress Business Formal. Always go a step above the dress code, if for nothing more than to separate yourself from everyone else and stand out in a good way.
DO NOT share your personal business like that in the office. These mothafukkas will take the seemingly most insignificant thing and judge you off of it. I like to make beats in my spare time. You think people at the job know that shyt
Remember, everyone is always listening and watching, and making assumptions, judgments, etc...
I know some brehs might work in more relaxed environments, so all the rules won't apply to everyone. I'm really speaking to those of us that work in super corporate, type workplaces. It's so cutthroat because everything is so subtle, but ruthless at the same time. Like Jay-Z said, you gotta learn how to move in a room full of vultures
