This isnt policy. Its populism.

He never mentioned how he would do any of those things. That's the real policy.

The only thing that is something is the tariffs.

Right wing populism ! With a little flair of running to the left of the GOP candidates in the primary on trade and war.

I don't care what Donald Trump is. In 2014 if I told you a candidate would run like Trump the common response would be "that candidate is not electable."

"Electability" is a media creation to control which candidate run in an election.
facts.

i said it early, this wont be a policy election, too bad because warren is it, but i'm really not sure who will be most "electable" given the breadth of the dem base and dems tending to pick at every possible social or policy flaw of candidates. this makes me feel like we'll lose, i don't think anyone will be good enough to pull together the entire base (plus independents).

funny this was brought up, my old roommate just sent a message saying she's hoping they pick a double white male ticket for this reason...this, to me, is just as much of a setback as trump. reinforcing the age old adage that white men are who "deserve" power and who should be leading...super annoying to see after the last 3 election cycles and given the strong politicians who have ascended over the past ~5 years who aren't anything close to being white men.

That's true, but what people like to downplay is the fact that Trump won on POLICY. People literally liked his message.
if your "POLICY" is dog whistle politics that alludes to things that make white america great again, yea he won...imagine white people, the majority in this country, voting for white supremacy...such a well thought out policy :rudy:

What? :russ::mjlol: The Senate is out of reach for 2 cycles.
It's not as troubling as it seems. There's more GOP seats up. The Dems just need 3 or 4 seats to take back control. Iowa, Maine, Colorado, and Georgia are doable. But my initial point was electability doesn't matter. Alot of people might have thought Hillary was super electable. We just need whomever the candidate is to get a monster turnout and not just to vote against Trump. If that happens it's possible to win back Congress imo.

what the fukk policy did he run on? :mjlol: he used a bunch of catch phrases like "build the wall", and then just spouted a bunch of vague bullshyt with positive adjectives. he couldnt have LESS ran on policy :bryan: he literally, COMPLETELY ran on feeling
I didn't say good policy, but yes, even to be bold enough to declare that you want a wall is more revolutionary than half of the things that EVER comes out of a presidential candidate's mouth.

Really think about that.

Trump got elected for the fact that people wanted someone who would take action. Shyt, action on anything. The fact is most politicians just talk shyt. Whether he has done anything dor real is another story.

People want action, and the winner of this election will be the person who can convince people of that.

Na he's right. He just wasn't specific/wonky about it.
  • Build the wall is a policy
  • No more trade deals is a policy
  • tariffs on foreign goods is a policy
  • Bring the jobs back is a policy
  • Stop foreign intervention is a policy
Exactly. If we're honest Trump was remarkably specific with his goals for this country. That takes balls.

You're lying to yourself, and/or you weren't paying attention. Trump consistently talked legit policy. Not very articulately, but it's true. And people liked it.

you're lying to yourself, someone already pointed out his talking points, and all were positioned as white populism...i'm sorry, but i don't trust people who refuse to acknowledge this fact

No I am not.

Your favorite politician talks in more circles than Trump, I can bet that.

This thread serves as such an accurate microcosm as to what is wrong with democrats. You all refuse to take an honest step back and reflect of the things other people say.

Trump was direct and painted a clear vision of his policies. That can not be refuted. Especially when compared to all the other con artists he was up against. Even up to this day, Trump will tweet about something and have a clear idea as to what he thinks about it.

Democrats can learn a lot from Trump, anyone who thinks otherwise is lying to themselves. He ran on policy, and won on policy. All facts.
