a great place to get caught up is this youtube playlist

i thought it was interesting the new trailer shows glimpses of before the great war, which has always been this mythical mystical point in history in the fallout universe. the closest we've gotten to that time period is in the operation anchorage DLC but it was only a simulation.
and a whole bunch of ghouls lying about being around then

makes me wonder where the next one will fall on the timeline...

Everywhere
Pre war stuff was never really an interest to me. I just like seeing the decay years after and how people adapt to it.

Unless Bethesda can some how capture the fear of the world being destroyed to the player leave it in a flashback.

Texas gotta be next though.

it was the whole world. every country with nukes were launching them at each other for 2 hours straight

:snoop: i'm really wasting my day off watching this shyt right now breh. i could be playing the witcher 3 right now but instead with the announcement of fallout 4 i'm super hyped. i'm even contemplating reinstalling new vegas and playing it until the witcher 3 dlc drops.

suckas always trying to chop down fallout 3 story...
The Blistering Stupidity of Fallout 3, Part 1
200 years after the bombs fell, the old world should just be gone. But no. In Fallout 3 people still dress the same, stores still have Old World food on the shelves, the old machines still work, and people still talk about the war the way we discuss 9/11. Nobody has made any new music, culture, customs, clothing, or tools. They haven’t even swept the dang floor.

Yeah, that's a little dumb. My understanding was that everything did go dark, people only existed in tribes (and vaults) and then slowly they started to civilize again using the clues from the past to inform their civilization. So it's not really that people are carrying on traditions like wearing 1950s outfits and drinking Nuka Cola but more that are trying to rebuild a new world using clues about what the old one was like.

This is a good question. Who's to say that China didn't have tech similar to Mr. House's and was able to protect entire areas?

That would be a cool dlc. Emerge from a vault and find a fully functioning dystopian world.

not to mention there was no interest in moving forward at all. the little communities were content. super mutants and raiders physically controlled the whole area, they could care less. the enclave committing genocide every chance they get. the outcasts and brotherhood were capable but neither gave a shyt about rebuilding. that leaves...nobody to rebuild. i mean, if nobody is doing it it wont get done. simple logic

That's probably where the commonwealth fits in.
