Oh, so its dumb Americans who are out of control and because of lax gun laws they decide to murder people? You are out of your mind. What happened in Norway last year? Europe has its own issues with guns. A psychotic mind is just that. Guns dont kill people. People do. Its REALLY that simple.
It's funny because in this sort of argument Americans ALWAYS bring up Breivik. Like yeah theer just was ANOTHER dude who shot up a mall in POrtland or wherever it was BUT OMG LOOK AT NORWAY. We all know that happened. But why is it that you remember that one occurence? Because it hardly ever happens in Europe. When is the last time you heard about someone going on a killing spree in Europe (think about it before running to Google). An ideal world doens't exist, we all know that. But the difference in Norway is that while y'all would be saying "Well, next time give guns to all the kids", they say the exact opposite and try to beef their gun control even more. So, yeah, it's all about culture/mentality.
You are so very wrong. How do you think the Egyptians and other Middle Eastern countries got out from dictatorship? They had ASSAULT rifles that rivaled the governments. Just because the current climate in the US is peaceful and the "government is working for us" does NOT mean this will always be the case. The government should ALWAYS be afraid of the people. Thats why the constitution was written the way it was. Do some research about my country before you judge it. King George of England learned the hard way that people will rise up against tyranny. The founders of this country WANTED the citizens to have guns in order to protect CIVIL liberties. This was a foolproof way to protect CITIZENS against any and all governments.
Tanks are great for wide open combat. What about an army going into apartment buildings or small areas that a tank cant reach? Seems to me that assault rifles would be the ideal weapon then... Big machines only go so far. At the bare minimum it comes down to guns and assault rifles are an equilizer.
I get all of that BUT WHY IN THE WORLD ARE YOU GUYS SO SCARED OF YOUR OWN GVT????????? No one had been able to answer this simple question in all these threads. Y'all make it sound like you're living in Afghanistan or shyt. You guys still take King George as a reference? And again, what is it in the US that y'all are so paranoid about your gvt, give me ONE instance in which the gvt attacked its own citizens (I'm not talking about repressing a riot for example...I'm talking a full-scale military attack), and did the fact taht y'all had guns change anything? Why is it that of all the developped countries only the US come up with this "I gotta protect myself from my own government" rhetoric?
And before bringing up Egypt and those places, you really think they just went out and bought arms legally? That's the Middle-East breh, of course guns are in circulation with Israël, Gaza, Iran, Lebanon in the area...but are you really comparing the US to those places? With all respect to those countries, they're far from being at the same spot as the US or other developed countries. It's not the fact that some had guns and rifles out there that toppled the regime, it's the fact taht teh whole damn country rose against a tyran (who's the last American president that was a tyran?) and that the army did not go crazy and shoot them all. But they could have, make no mistake. Look at Syria, the "civilians" (who are really rebel groups) have arms, but you don't see them winning. Why? Because there's a whole ARMY in front of them. And in Lybia those were rebel movements too (some with weapons smuggled from the outside, others...with weapons from the army), so we're either talking about "civilians" or "rebel movements", those are two very different things. And if you really think it's all gravy now in those countries, you must not be watching the news. BUt taht's neither here nor there.
Let's entertain the thought though: you talk about guerilla warfare and whatnot, IF the gvt decided to attack its own population, why do you think they wouldn't just bomb the apartment building you're hiding in with your rifle? I'd say that the only reason they wouldn't do it would be someone saying "There might be civilians in there", but if they are already go crazy enough to attack their own population, they wouldn't care one bit I guess. Your best hope would be soldiers rallying your opposition, and that doesn't have anything to do with whether you have rifles or not. Breh they'll fly a drone in your building before you even load your rifle.
For me, this argument just doesn't hold against logic. I see no other reason than tradition and wide-spread distrust of your fellow citizens/government as a reason for you guys to stick to your guns, I personally find it crazy (given the consequences and the fact that it can only lead to an escalation of guns in circulation) but to each his own. The very fact that people can actually seriously say "The answer to gun violence is more guns" is mindblowing. Whatever, but the whole "I need protection from my gvt" doens't make any sense IMO.
