We've talked about this before, and it basically boils down to the fact that hip hop is nomadic and everybody ain't where you think they from. Just like back in the day folks thought Crucial and Doe or Die were biting Bone and Bone was biting 3-6. That wasn't the case, people were doing similar things, but making different types of music.

EVERYBODY, and when I say everybody I literally mean EVERYBODY from Memphis got roots in Mississippi. And nikkas from Memphis migrated to Detroit and Chicago during the 60's and to Atlanta in the 70's so really we can make the argument that Mississippi is the birthplace of trap, crunk, drill or whatever cuz they was doing that in the church houses since nikkas started picking cotton.

No idea's original, its all about putting your stamp on it. If you real, your personality comes through in your music, if you fake, it don't take long to find out.

These types of discussions are good though, if my grandparents had the internet back in the day, a whole helluva lot more people would know about Northern Soul (Philly), Staxx (Memphis) and not just about Motown.

nikka threw his bootleg ass 2 Live Crew imitation in the bushes to create a watered down spinoff of Paul & Juice's sound :heh:

a production-style that Paul & Juice were using since the early to mid-90's.

That nikka ain't even fukkin' wit 90's era Memphis producers like Squeeky, Zirk, Blackout, DJ Sound, Tommy Wright etc....let alone Paul & Juice.

That's not a fair question considering Toomp is isn't a rapper but he handled most of the production on Trap Muzik which is better than anything CD they ever put out. I'm the biggest 3-6 fan ever probably, I own EVERY CD out of that camp from the solo tapes to the group projects from the Mystic Stylez days but they don't have a classic CD. Mista Dont Play is a regional classic but nothing game changing.

The GOATS Nas and Jay have knocked on Toomps door, Kanye even have him props. In top of all of that, he's my boy, I know what he contributed to the south.

would you say project pat made trap music?

No trap music always existed, I'm not from Atlanta so I can't know for sure, but Hit Man Sammy Sam is more trap than 3-6 mafia

3-6 created crunk music, for instance Tear the Club up was first, then LiL Jon blew up with it coming out with BIA BIA which is very similar to 3-6 productions

That mista don't play album tho :blessed:

That album was trap all the way

Ghetty Green and Mistah Don't Play opened doors for ti, jeezy, freddie gibbs, alley boy etc.

TBH tho, The A BEEN on that trap shyt with baby d, coolbreeze, ghetto mafia, hitman sammy sam, kilo ali, backbone.

Sonically is where the confusions begins/ends. When Pat dropped Mistah Don't Play, ATL bit the sound and meshed that hotboy cmr shyt and hasn't looked back since. It's kind of sad to think about because the A lost its regional sound (organized noize, big oomp camp) and memphis crunk buzz kinda died out.

Good shyt my dude. But we gotta give props to DJ Zirk and DJ Squeeky because those dudes spearheaded the get buck movement or "buck music". Paul and J took buck music and called it crunk. It's no different the UNLV i'm bout it and Master P bout it bout.

Atlanta rap blew up by stealing Memphis' identity. everybody knows that.

as far the Migos flow. they bit their flow from Crime Mob, who bit Three 6 Mafia. so the lineage is Migos > Crime Mob > Three 6 Mafia. Migos are 90's babies,so Knuck if you Buck was the biggest song to come out of Atlanta when they were growing up. i don't know why it's so hard for people to figure out. it's not rocket surgery.

Not entirely accurate... they were all developing their sound at around the same time...what people know as the patented "3-6 sound"...those drum/bass line patterns, cinematic samples, background chants, horn/trumpet sounds etc. was being done by alot of different Memphis producers/djs around the same time period including Paul & Juice...it's hard to pinpoint who exactly created it...Most old old heads credit Spanish Fly though...But 3-6 definitely sampled Squeeky & Zirk ALOT more than the other way around.

These songs for instance on a old Juicy J mixtape from '92 had that patented "3-6 sound" and was released slightly before Squeeky & Zirk's supposedly pioneering songs like "it's da ink" "2 thick" & "lock em in the trunk"

true but the purpose of this thread was more so to get cats to stop acting like the trap/drill sound is all original when all forms of rap music are influenced from somewhere else
