Even though I agree with the T/S, Nas' skills has deteriorated as well. Listen to Illmatic and listen to Life is Good and Nas' lyrical skills are nowhere close to where they were, and obviously the same goes for Jay-Z. Even though Life is Good was a dope fukking album and is my album of they year, comparing it to his 1st joint is unfair (so is comparing BP3 with RD).

But to get back on topic, honestly, Jay has lost it too. Listening to WTT I was totally unimpressed. To me Jay is one of the dopest lyricists ever, but I think it might be time for the god to either find some inspiration from somewhere (get divorced, have beyonce cheat on him, get shot, etc) or just retire with his legacy.

Nas on LIG spoke on normal shyt that's relatable to a lot of people. Bye Baby and breaking up with your chick, daughters and being a family man, Cherry Wine and finding a chick you can vibe with, etc. Hov's biggest problem is he's gotten too successful. I mean him and his wife together are billionaires. I only make 6 figures and I'm out of touch with the days of when I was broke wondering if it's gonna be ramen noodles or putting gas in my car. So hearing people say shyt like $500 is a lot of money has me like :what:, even though it wasn't too long ago I was in that same situation.

Hopefully Jay's next album is dope. I wanna be 50 years old still getting excited for a Nas/Jay-Z release.

See but this was my point months ago and I got called a Jay stan for saying it. Most of the problems with Jay is what he is talking about and people crying that they can't relate. Then when I respond, so related to RD and Vol. 2 :rudy:

They're like :why:.

Basically, Jay's been winning too long and people are tired of hearing him win. That song ignorant shyt describes 98% of his critics. (And this is still a thinly veiled Nas stan thread....but I'm not going through all of that again).

Real talk jay fell off to me around when the BP dropped... Not sayin he hasn't dropped some hot shyt since, but he been washed up for more than 10 years...

I don't really blame him... He's built this empire which I'm guessin keeps him busier n makes him more money...
Same shyt with 50 for me... Both them nikkaz rich as fukk n really have distanced themselves from the real world...They can't drop hot shyt anymore.... They should stay away from the mic and stop tarnishin they legacies
Now Nas always been a bum... So he can still drop tha hoT shyt regular nikkaz relate to...

he fell off black album in your opinion?

the lyrics were on point with black album.

the production and jay going a lil deep on blueprint made it special since he was all about flossin ice, moving dope, and dissing women from 97-2001. The sounds was very welcomed IMO. Kanye changed the game! who is jordan w/o pippen....who is jay-z without kanye?

My problem with Jay is that he still has the mic skills but he only chooses when he'll drop something good, dude had verses on No church in the wild, murder to excellence, thank you, and already home that shows he can still be on top after being in the game so long. But then he'll drop something garbage like his suit & tie verse, 3 kings verse, and I do it for hip-hop verse which would come off as half assing it. After AG dude has been inconsistent as hell, hopefully his next album is good and not all that Euro Hov, hipster, trying to fit in with the younger crowd shyt he's been on lately.

He can still bring it if he wants, the problem is i don't think he wants to. What does a 40 plus year old man whose a millionaire hundreds of time over with a bad ass wife and a seed to raise really have to rap about?

I can only speak for myself, but I'm not tired of hearing him win. If lyrically Jay can rap about billionaire shyt and make it sound dope, I'll rock with it. I think his drive and motivation is gone. Rap still brings him in money, but if his hiphop check was to disappear he'd probably be like :ehh:

He still got it though, hearing American Gangster for the 1st time had me like :whoo: that shyt stayed on repeat in the whip. BP3 and WTT though was aight at best tho.

I thought he was spitting on WTT. Part of rap is just having fun, for example I thought that Haters song on BP3 was hilarious. Though that album was just okay. I thought he killed No Church in the Wild, Primetime, Murder to Excellence, and other tracks, honestly, he carried Kanye on his back lyrically for that entire album (as to be expected). The songs where he wasn't as lyrical, I thought it was appropriate like that track "Gotta Have it." He obviously wasn't American Gangster Jay, but I thought he rapped properly for that sort of production.

WTT has a lot of replay value to me. But I can respect your opinion.

Don't get me wrong jay is one of the best to ever do it... And his constitency at the top aIone proves it... The BA was kinda hot n coId for me... Its just that IyricaIIy wise he hasn't been as raw to me since the earIy 2000's... AG was hot but I just don't feeI his shyt anymore Iike I used to... N to teII you the truth this tends to happen with aImost every rapper.

Everything you post is Jay-Z dikkriding that is not veiled at all. I didn't mention Nas until the end of the op, and only did so as a point of comparison between the trajectory of the careers of two all-time great legends who have had careers who made their splash around the same time and have paralleled each other in many respects, and had a battle. It's sad that you and others cannot look at a perspective on its own merit instead of trying to dismiss any assertion as "you're a ____ fan." I'd expect such idiocy from someone like Doeboy/gravity. Your IQ drops like 20 points whenever you talk about Jay-Z it seems. If Nas died in 2002, the same criticism about Jay's music and lyrics would hold valid.

lol@people can't relate to Jay because he's "winning." What a lazy ass dikkrider excuse. People are criticizing him because his lyrical ability has fell off a fukking cliff and he sounds lazy and uninspired. I can't relate to him on Reasonable Doubt either because I'm not a rich cocaine dealer, but that shyt was beautiful art and he was a cutting edge lyricist.

Even if his music is in many ways a result of him being older and focusing more on business ventures and other things he places more focus on and being removed from hip-hop, that doesn't negate the reality that he's putting out subpar work. If Tom Brady isn't as good as he used to be, and people point that out, are we just going to pretend it's not a valid assessment and be like "You can't relate to him because Tom Brady is winning. He's older and he's rich and he's married to Gisele and he's a future HOF and he has 3 rings. And oh yeah, you're a Peyton Manning stan."
