Either It's thecoli "Team _____ thing" where you can't read an objective post at all or they really have this expectation Kovalev is gonna go in there & KO everybody.
Looking forward to Ward/Kovalev.
After watching this though, I think Ward should have selected a tougher guy for his tuneup. I like that Ward went to 175 & got acclimated to the weight. It's smart. I would have liked to have seen maybe a tougher opponent. It's just kind of hard for me to gauge Ward at 175.
I scored 11 for him too, making it 6-5 (minus 1 for a KD) in the 12th.

Kov came to fight for rd 12 but that's about it since the 9th. Chilemba got rocked in the 12th, but during 4/5/6 9/10/11 he was fleeter in the feet than Kovalev easily, had the better jab and showed ability to clinch easily.
So take Chilemba +8 his boxing skill +4 speed +5.5 footwork +3 his power and +infinity infighting and intangibles, and you have Andre Ward.
Wards only fight at 175 he beat an undefeated guy 12-0 with one KD

i just dont think it will be a complete wash for ward..60/40 for ward is about right after watching this fight...kovalev needed a fight like chilemba..he can only learn from it
Wards a whole different ballgame though. Ward doesn't get hit with 65% of the shots (especially jabs and that KD sequence) Chilemba got hit with, due to spacing, and spatial awareness. Left hook is Wards best punch, look at some of the clean left hooks Chilemba hit on etc etc.
Remember when Ward fought the 168 kovalev, called Froch, at the time? He did it with only one hand breh. Its 65/35 ward IMO
Every fight is different man. Ward has beat better fighters than Bika, yet it is Bika who gave him the toughest fight of his career.
60/40 Ward is very fair. I do believe Ward's competition the last few years has been dreadful. I really believe fighting high quality guys is important. I'm picking Ward to win, but I don't like picking a guy based on his accomplishments 4-5 years ago & normally wouldn't, but I believe Ward is that good.
what does ward have to work on to beat Kovalev?I am specifically referring to his last bout (ward) and things he need to polish up..
I thought chilemba looked good out there, he avoided the right hand for the most part... Kovalev landed some sneaky body punches in the 8 round that I don't think chilemba was expecting, he didn't look the same after... Kovalev is going to have his hands full vs ward, wards left hook and movement will be a problem.

Maybe it's just me, but I think Kovalev is better than Froch by a good margin.
Chilemba would box the shyt out of Froch similar to what Dirrell did.
I still think Ward beats Krusher, but its gonna be a tougher fight than the Froch one. Froch is slower and less powerful than Kovalev, plus he gets frustrated quicker. There were times in the Ward and Dirrell fight where dude looked like he wanted to cry and just give up when he couldn't land anything of significance.
Kovalev at least battled back with Chilemba and kept the rounds competitive even when he was tired or getting outboxed. He at least has a level of patience against that pure boxing style.
