nikka the military industrial complex can literally fukking kill you before you even know they are there. Can your AR-15 protect you from a drone strike? This isn't even the 1970's anymore when being armed and ready was a necessity, there is literally nothing a bunch of random people being armed with assault rifles could possibly do to deter the US military if there was a hostile authoritarian faction that took control.

As for the line about the 2nd amendment, they had 30 round automatic rifles years before the 2nd was written. And technology advancing doesn’t mean you can change constitutional rights. “Oh it was written in the days of muskets they never could have imagined an AR”. So was the 1st amendment yet it still protects computers, cell phones, and a gang of other mediums that weren’t “part of the times” when the amendments were written.

An assault rifle is a fully automatic/select fire capability battle carbine with a lighter weight and shorter barrel. Purchasing an ASSAULT rifle requires an FFL.
An AR-15 is a SPORTING rifle.
