A lot of liberals mean well and are highly empathetic but they 1) don't know the implications of their actions and 2) generally do not live their values (i.e. very idealistic).

This is true for the most. To be fair, many right wingers are the same when it comes to both points.

To be fair, liberalism is about doing the right thing if it can be done to make a profit while conservatism is about denying things because they feel its morally wrong.
Liberals don't help people because its too costly (at this point in time, who knows the future) while conservatives don't help because they hate poor people.
Nothing is going to fundamentally change until we get out of this money accumulation obsessed economic system.
