(rest of my info is legit) now they wanna see my papers in the interview.

CV's are sort of seen as a academic resume in the US. On a lot of CV's you'll generally see everything from the colleges attended, to the GPA, classes and certain types of tests passed; peer reviewed publishings, research experience and any extra cirrculars related to it.

I see "CV" all the time. We use it here, too. It's just the resume is more widely used.
