I thought that the safest place to be during a lightning storm is in the car - because of the tires or something like that? Guess not. people actually helped, instead of pulling out cells or taking pics. how many people got out the car???.... damn

Its the safest in the car because it acts as a faraday cage.

Electric charge accumulates on the outside of an enclosed object and zero charge happens inside of the car because the electric field distributes evenly on the surface and therefore cancel each other out inside the car and you feel zero net charge.
