You are right about the white media. They have been in full force trying to make LeBron already ahead of Kobe and going head to head with Jordan. But that isn't true for the people who have actually played the game. NBA players still almost universally hold Kobe in higher regard.

Game 7 2016 finals off the top of my head.

Go back and watch that game. LeBron did not actually play that well. He disappeared for most of the 2nd half. JR Smith was really the unsung hero of that game for keeping them alive in the 3rd quarter.

I would suggest you go back and watch that game again. That was not an epic performance by LeBron by any stretch of the imagination. Game 7 in 2013 is more of an epic game 7 performance by him.

This whole “rings don’t matter” talk only started coming up once Lebron started loosing I the finals constantly. Prior to that that’s how we determined who was the best.

Its also used in Football. The only reason Tom Brady is now getting called the GOAT by most is cause he has more Super Bowl rings than any other QB. Peyton Manning still shyts on him in terms of stats and MVPs but its the Super Bowl rings that make him the GOAT.

In basketball its the same thing. Jordan has the most rings in the modern era (6). And that's the main reason he's considered the GOAT. If he didn't have those rings, he wouldn't be getting the same love.
