A lot of ppl are looking at Garvey differently in hindsight. And rightfully so. Y’all can get mad at ADOS and FBA, but Garvey had some super overly hotep ideas that were ultimately didn’t help the black community in America. Meeting with the Klan on some “we have the same ideas” shyt just isn’t it. Very hotepy/ankh rightish. Lil Bill and FD are always on point.
The NOI did the same thing iirc. At least Marcus Garvey and the u n i a haven't been known to kill black people. How many bodies does the NOI have? Elijah Muhammad was running for his life during the early years of the organization, no?

I kinda dont want to delve into disapora wars

But at that time there wasnt a huge difference Brother Martin Delany went to Liberia

Before that there was Paul Cuffee and had Lincoln lived there was a good chance Black Americans wouldve been in the west indies or Africa because that was his ultimate goal.

But putting that to the side anyone bold enough to advocate for Black people in any capacity when they lynched people for no reason could have been wrong but a cowardly c00n he was not

Like the dude said it depends on if you’re an Afro pessimist or not.

Anyone alive then looking now would either think integration was wildly successful or we will never get justice on stolen land.
It wasn't cowardly, but White Supremacist and Conservatives, could see the benefits in their messaging. We can no longer own slaves, so we might as well send back to Africa. Garvey and others being advocates of this, the whites can see why there could be a middle ground and meeting of minds with Pan-Africanists. TODAY, a Garvey would be viewed in the same light as MAGA. He'd be called MAGA ad nauseum on here. "I like my racism out in the open, therefore I know who my enemy is" <--That Ankh Right way of thinking that's prevelant on here reeks of Garvyism. Some of his ideas would have DNC Coli begging for a Ban or at least get hims sent to the bushes. :dead:

The NOI has never been exempt from critcism from the Black Community the same way Garvey has. Since Malcolms assassination, there have been groups of Black Americans that have resented NOI and Louis Farrakhan. Garvey by comparison, has had a pristine legacy, until recently when ppl started looking back on his ideas with questions. Particularly ADOS/FBA.

I get your point and that’s the main criticism of Afro Pessimist thought.
