Lil durk explained this in a interview once and it made complete sense and went along with what I've heard from people during my time living in Chicago. Basically the structure or older street dudes are gone. When a problem used to come about between two groups or "tribes", a big homie would talk to the opps and they would work it out. Fist fights, gun play if needed.
Now most of these big homies are gone. So now these kids see the best way to come up is to straight up kill or rob the "hardest dude" and they become to most feared. It's literally a contest to see who is the toughest. There is no talking it out before a fist fight. A fist fight is a kid spraying up a corner wth an Uzi.
This shyt is "fun" to them. Living a fukkery filled life and firing at "opps"... Sociologically, Chicago gangs are one of the craziest things America has ever created.
Facts. One of my homies from the Chi told me that a year or 2 ago. Said the nikkas from the 90's who were and would be O.G's all dead or under the jail. Like a whole generation of dudes gone. Sons running wild without rules or codes. It's only a matter of years before most of these generation of dudes gone too.
