Ross makes dummy music for sure. I can't imagine ever being moved to feel any real emotion listening to him. It's all surface rap...and not even great surface rap like Jay or BIGs forays.

I was listening to a couple things from GFID and like, it's hard to describe it, but the 'exquisite aura' these instrumentals are painting are shallow as heck.. like all the components are there with the airy sound and the clinking glass and all that but it's not 'there' in a real way. Same thing you're saying, like the pieces of the puzzle are all there in his work but the complete picture just comes off artificial

LIG reminds me of post 04' When nikkas put out albums with their own sound. Not everything has to sound like whats hot or cool at the moment. And this current swag rap sound is very small and trash. Thats y most shyt sound the same.

It only reminds me that there is different albums and different levels of greatness.
I wouldn't expect anything less from Nas, and it doesn't make me look at the rap game differently.

Sometimes I want dumb music so I go and listen to dumb music, sometimes I want gangster, balling, lavish music so I go and listen to that, sometimes I want smart music etc. As far as great music, I always want great music. And right now I have 5-6 hiphop tapes from 2012 that are great in different ways in rotation.

I like the diversity, and I appreciate that rappers like Nas does his thing to show more artists to do their damn thing. I don't want cats to make music like Nas, but to do what they enjoy and more rappers like Nas would shine. J. Cole's album would be better, Lupe Fiasco would still be dope, I would be anticipating Wiz Khalifas album and on.

Look, as classic as Nas' album is, you can't tell me Rick Ross music has no substance and that you reached some sort of epiphany after hearing this album. Months from now on you'll still be bumping "dumb" music and not thinking any of it. Songs like Rich Forever, Triple Beam Dreams, Tears of Joy and Ten Jesus Pieces are great music and it would shameful if they don't evoke any emotion from you at all.

I don't think Ross has ever even completed a single thought in his raps. I'm a fan. Ross is one of my favorite rappers. But compared to LIG and R.A.P. Music, the lyrics just pale in comparison. Ross definately has a place, but I'll probably come back to his album in a few months. Other than Amsterdam I haven't really been moved by GFID. I feel like Ross was way more engaging and over the top on Rich Forever anyway. GFID is good, but for the most part pretty tame by his standards.
