when you have a youtube channel you can choose what kinda monetization you want (play an ad before video starts, pop up ads, etc.) its just a few check boxes. I just rewatched it, theres popup ads but no beginning video ad (the ones where it says skip this ad, after 5 seconds) so they are monetized and they have 45k subscribers
